So at first I had my doubts about these batteries being the cure all for powersport lead acid and AGM batteries. I took the plunge and bought the NLP20 for my 2005 Harley Softail Standard due to its fair weather application. This is what I know.
First. Right in the instruction manual that comes with the battery it states that the battery management system built into the unit will not allow charging below -10 Celsius. So this would eliminate its use in snowmobiles unless your battery is in a spot where engine temps would heat up the lithium cells above that point or if your sled a relic and has almost zero load for accessories.
Second. You do not need a genius charger but do need to pay attention to the amperage limits of the battery you buy. The group 20 battery for example has a 21 amp limit. So it’s good for most chargers. However the smaller batteries have significantly lower limits so don’t put 20 amps of charge into it. One would think the battery management system wouldn’t allow you to cook it this way but to guarantee it… pay attention to your battery charger selection. Also if it does shut it down it still won’t charge the battery and it would remain dead.
Third. My old Harley battery was 15.6 lbs. The NOCO is 3.9 with the adapter plates required for my bike.
I cannot speak to durability or life at this time.
