I bought these to help install the ‘YES Time Set of 4 Magnetic Cabinet & Door Latch Catch Closures Cabinet Hardware Fittings’ in some barn doors that I had installed and didn’t want to ever fall open. The forstner drill bits were perfect for the job. They worked with my cordless drill perfectly and made very neat shallow holes. So easy. I highly recommend this set.

    First of all, buyers should understand that these are not Forstner bits. Forstner bits have a cutting rim to scribe the circumference of the hole. These have two spurs much like a spade bit. One of the most useful properties of a Forstner bit is the ability to drill clean, straight overlapping holes even when the centre brad is over a void. These bits will not do that. In terms of performance, they are a step up from spade bits but cannot match a true Forstner bit. In terms of build quality, the shafts were true with acceptable runout for woodworking. The brazing and machining of the head was sloppy and nonuniform but did not affect performance. Most of the bits cut a hole slightly larger than the stated size. My set was metric and the holes were generally about 0.2 mm larger than they should have been. Most people can probably live with this. The shanks on these bits are different from one bit to the next, increasing in size as the bits get larger. The only reason I mention this is that they will not fit Forstner shank extenders which are usually sized to a standard 3/8 inch. When used carefully in a drill press the outer spurs were capable of cutting a nice clean entry and produced a hole with fairly clean walls. When used in a hand drill, it is difficult to keep the bit perfectly perpendicular to the work surface and one spur contacts the wood before the other. This can result in a rough entry with the bit bouncing around somewhat. Overall I would say that these bits are good value for the money and can perform reasonably well if used carefully. However they are not capable of replacing a decent set of Forstners if you need to drill overlapping holes or require very accurate hole diameters.

    These work quite well, but as others have pointed out, they are consistently oversized. I purchased these in order to install two different push-button cabinet latches, purchased from 鶹. One requires 20mm holes, the other, 26mm. Unfortunately, the "20mm" bit produces a 20.2mm hole, and the "26mm' bit, a 26.4mm hole! I'm still happy with the purchase, but if accuracy is important, look elsewhere.

    Visto il prezzo, mi ritengo molto soddisfatto. Le punte forano dritto senza spostarsi nella fase di lavorazione (eccezione se nel legno vi sono dei nodi molto duri, ma comunque precisione molto buona).
    Provate su legno tenero di abete con trapano a colonna per uso obbistico (200Watt). Le punte tagliano bene con una buona espulsione del truciolo. Non scheggia la parte lavorata, ed il foro risulta pulito e preciso (avendo fatto solo fori cechi, ancora da verificare se scheggia il legno nel foro passante).
    Alcune punte, sembrano tagliare un po' poco (non tagliano tutte uguali e sono forse meno affilate) ma comunque il risultato è molto soddisfacente.

    I bought these over a year ago and haven't used them until yesterday. I used the 35mm (1 3/8") to make holes for door hinges. I cut holes for 31 rift-sawn white oak doors (62 holes) and it went through all of them without any problem. The carbide blades still feel sharp. There is no way I would have been able to drill hole after hole after hole if I was using high speed steel Forstner bits. I am confident I will have this set of bits for a life time.
