Sprinkler Pumps Selection and Installation Tips - 4 970x600

Product Selection Tips:

The easiest way to select the proper pump for the job is to determine how many sprinkler heads and what size pipe is used. If 1/2" pipe is used, the formula is GPH at 30 PSI divided by 3. If 3/4" pipe is used, the formula is GPH at 30 PSI divided by 6. We have done the calculations for you and the information can be found in both the technical specifications and the pump comparison chart found on this page.

Installation Tips:

This pump is rated 4 out of 5 stars in level of difficulty (5 being most difficult). Electrical wiring is required along with precise measurements for cutting the piping. This pump is designed to work with a pump start relay and a timer (not included.) We strongly recommend hiring a sprinkler pump installer or contractor with sprinkler installation experience for this installation.

  • This pump is DUAL VOLTAGE which means it will work with both 115 Volt and 230 Volt power sources. The voltage selection indicator on the pump MUST MATCH the power source. The pump comes PRE-SET for 230 Volt operation. To use the pump for 115 Volt installation, the voltage indicator on the pump must be changed to 115 Volts. Instructions for changing the voltage are in the Owner's Manual. A small motor cover is located on the back end of the pump's motor and must be removed with a screwdriver. For the 1 HP model, once the cover is removed, insert a flat head screwdriver in the voltage change indicator and rotated counter clockwise so it read 115 and replace the motor cover. (See Owner's Manual for illustration.)
  • USE PTFE tape on all pipe thread and ensure the the suction and discharge lines are completely AIRTIGHT otherwise the pump will lose prime and will be extremely noisy (called cavitation).
  • PRIME the pump! Remove the priming port plug at the top of the unit. Open the discharge valves on the discharge side of the pump. Fill the pump with water through the priming port. Allow trapped air to escape for a few minutes, then add more water until the pump and line is full. Replace the priming port plug and tighten with a wrench.
  • A CHECK VALVE (not included) should be installed on the discharge line to keep the pump primed and a STRAINER should be used on the intake line to keep debris from entering the pump.
  • Additional instructions, safety tips, and troubleshooting tips are found in the Owner's Manual.

Works great, runs a 1-1/4” sprinkler through 400ft of forestry hose and provides a full 100+ ft of coverage. Still has enough flow to run a second sprinkler too.

This pump never worked right out of the box when new. The warranty process was decently easy and they replaced the pump. Sounds good right. It took a week to even get the warranty processed and am being told another 3 to 4 weeks for it to ship. People have these pumps for a reason and a month and a half without water can't be costly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to get primed

Just got this installed for my sister on her sprinkler system (in part since her old plastic pump got busted at the outlet port). So far it's going good, but was a bit hard to get primed and going. For her system, everything is uphill to the yard from a canal behind the house, yet the high inlet on this allows an air pocket to exist in it (rather than allowing water to flow down back-filling everything). I have "banjo" fittings for connecting the suction line where I had to crack it to bleed air 3 times before it got going (letting it run at least 30 seconds between each bleed to try it, but not let it go long).
Once primed, it seems to be doing well where even with 2 of her sprinkler circuits going at the same time (from a valve not closing) it didn't drop pressure and all ratcheting sprinklers were still moving (with old 1.5HP pump there would be pressure drop in such conditions). Now to hope it can keep going and handle the typical dirt/debris from such a water source.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good pump, bad assembly
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2025

Overall it's been great, I can run 12 sprinklers with no problem. But after a month it just quit. Checked power and breakers all good. Pulled pump head off to check for a stuck impeller. It wasn't installed correctly and was off the drive motor wedged against the housing. Had to chase the impeller treads and then the drive threads due to damage. Got it back together and running So far.
Why did you pick this product vs others?:
    Wanted to try it out.
