PRODUCT SELECTION TIPS:
To properly select a pump, determine the USAGE or GPM (gallons per minute) you require. Count the number of fixtures including all faucets (including outside faucets unless those use a different water source), toilets, and water consuming appliances. Do not include water treatment appliances such as a hot water tank or water filter. Each fixture counts as 1 GPM. Example: a house with one full bathroom (sink, tub/shower, toilet, kitchen sink, basement sink, outside facet, washing machine and dishwater = 8 fixtures = 8 GPM.
Determine your PUMPING WATER LEVEL (found in the same locations as where you found your fill rate). Assuming you are using a 30/50 pressure switch, look at the 30 PSI information for the pump to determine the pump's performance at your water level at 30 PSI. We have provided this information for you in the specifications found above. Look at the pump's performance at the depth at 30 PSI and compare it to your usage and pumping water level. It should be equal or greater than the pump's performance. If this isn't the pump you are looking for, visit the Red Lion store under Clean Water to find other pumps that may be more suitable. The link is found at the top of the page.
Also determine the well's FILL RATE of your well. This can be found in your well driller's report, or possibly on a label beside the pump's power supply or control box or written in the existing pump's manual. If you can't find that information, we recommend contacting a well driller, who can come out and provide you with a well driller's report. If the Usage (calculated earlier) is GREATER THAN THE FILL RATE, there's a risk that the well could run dry. To address this, we recommend installing a low-pressure cut-off switch. This will shut the pump off if the well runs dry or loses pressure, protecting your investment. The switch will have to be reset (prime the pump and hold the level down to restart the pump) until the pump kicks in and this only has to be done if the switch shuts off the pump. Auto start options are available through professional installers/contractors if this needs to be done often.
INSTALLATION TIPS (Additional instructions, safety tips, and troubleshooting tips are found in the Owner's Manual):
- This pump is rated 4 OUT OF 5 STARS in level of difficulty (5 being most difficult). Electrical wiring is required along with precise measurements for cutting the piping. We strongly recommend hiring a licensed jet pump installer or contractor with jet pump installation experience for this installation.
- This pump is DUAL VOLTAGE which means it will work with both 115 Volt and 230 Volt power sources. The voltage selection indicator on the pump MUST MATCH the power source. The pump comes PRE-SET for 230 Volt operation. To use the pump for 115 Volt installation, the voltage indicator on the pump must be changed to 115 Volts. Instructions for changing the voltage are in the Owner's Manual. A small motor cover is located on the back end of the pump's motor and must be removed with a screwdriver. Once the cover is removed, you will see a black voltage change device with a white arrow pointing to 230. Do not remove any wires, simply lift the black voltage change device and move to the right and re-seat the device on the prongs so that the arrow is pointing to 115. (See Owner's Manual for illustration.)
- If using the pump in a well greater than 25’ deep, the INJECTOR gets installed in the well. To get the optimal performance always REPLACE the injector when you replace the pump. Follow the instructions supplies using the correct nozzle and venturi for the depth of your well. Failure to do so will result in reduced performance and can cause the pump to cavitate (causing a really loud noise) and significantly shorten the life of the pump.
- A FOOT VALVE (not included) should be installed in the well unless a well point is used. If replacing the pump, always check the condition of the foot valve at the same time as this might have been the contributing factor why your previous pump failed. If a well point is used, a CHECK VALVE (not included) should be installed on the suction line which keeps the pump primed and prevents rapid cycling. USE PTFE tape on all pipe thread and ensure that the suction and discharge lines are completely AIRTIGHT otherwise the pump will lose prime and will be extremely noisy (called cavitation).
- PRIME the pump! See the owner's manual for instructions on priming the pump as instructions are different depending on whether you are using a foot valve or check valve.

Product description
The PumpWorks branded 3/4 HP PW-CJ75 convertible jet pump is ideal for the supply of fresh water to cottages, cabins, and small homes that have wells down to 70 feet. Convertible jet pumps can be used in shallow wells down to 25-feet (injector is installed directly on the pump), or in deep well applications down to 70 feet (injector is installed in the well). If using the pump in a deep well application, replace the injector in the well as the injector is designed specifically for this pump and will give you optimal performance. This pump includes a 30/50 pressure switch and injector kit. This is a dual voltage pump and is factory set to 230 Volts. If wiring to 115 Volt power source, voltage switch must be changed to 115 Volts otherwise pump will not perform as expected. See owner's manual for instructions. This pump is rated for 8.1 GPM. PumpWorks is Red Lion's no-frill brand offering you a great product at a reduced price.
