Since 1921
Hario was established in 1921 in Tokyo, Japan as a manufacturer of laboratory glassware. By the late 1940s, after many years of research, the company introduced its heatproof "HARIO glass", which allowed the company to introduce its first coffee product - the Hario coffee syphon. After years of expansion in a number of different categories, in 2005, Hario released its iconic V60 Dripper, which has since become the most widely used dripper for manual pour over coffee. Hario's current catalog now spans kitchenware, laboratory glassware, automotive headlights, aromatherapy, pets products and jewelry, with a particular focus on specialty coffee and tea accessories. In addition to its dedication to product quality, Hario has an unwavering commitment to social responsibility, operating its pollution-free glass factory which utilizes 100% natural ingredients.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2019Verified PurchaseThis is my third Hario grinder and the second slim I have purchased.
I like the slim better than other grinders because it is slim and easier to hold while cranking. I am able to wrap my entire hand around this grinder as opposed to certain other grinders that are as thick as a mug and my hand tires on those grinders keeping the grinder from moving while cranking. The grinder cranks smoothly and makes relatively easy work of the beans. Everything that is ground is exceptionally consistent. For burr grinders the cost is reasonable. It is also cheaper than typical electrical burr grinders. Since I generally am not grinding a significant amount of grinds each time, I don't mind using a hand crank grinder over an electric burr grinder.
The slim is easy to use and adjust and can grind beans for espresso or coarser grains for other types of coffee. Though made of plastic it is very durable. I never clean the grinder with water, but it would be safe to do so (I brush it out with a dry paper towel only). The hand crank detaches when you load beans into the reservoir and for storage purposes. This grinder is also excellent for travel and camping.
The top reservoir can contain about 3-5 cups worth of grinds. If set on one of the finest settings, it'll probably take around a minute or two to grind enough for 1-2 cups of coffee. If set on a coarser setting, it takes around 15-30 seconds to grind. Unscrewing the bottom and pouring into my cup/aeropress etc. is clean as the hole is far more narrow than other burr grinder post grind containers. There is very little static unlike electric burr grinders which I seem to often end up getting grinds onto the counter top when it inevitably clumps to other grinds or statics to the edge and comes out weirdly from the container.
If I ever need another grinder, I'd consider grabbing another one of these, even considering it over electric burr grinder since I don't make exceptionally large batches anyways.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 17, 2021Verified PurchaseIt took the first 3 uses to get the proper grinding for my espresso machine. Since I only drink decaf, there isn't a big choice of espresso ground decaf coffee. I actually got this in order to be able to grind regular percolator ground coffee into a finer grind to use it for espresso. This grinder works very well with whole coffee beans as well as with ground coffee. Since the design is tall, it's easier to use when holding with both hands rather than on a top counter. The handle seems to have been improved since the previous model as both parts are made of sturdy metal with an hexagonal pattern. The only inconvenient for me is that since the cover and the bottom container are made of dark transparent plastic, it makes it hard to see the coffee through it and evaluate how much coffee there is in them.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2021Verified PurchaseThis grinder is alright for it's price tag. It will of course get the job done but not with the efficiency of more pricy grinders such as the Timemore c2 or Hario Skerton. My personal experience with the grinder was a step up from a normal blade grinder yet it still had those small little particles of coffee remaining after the grind. After finding a good way to set up the grinder for filter coffee I was somewhat impressed. The coffee tasted good yet still bitter tasting due to the inconsistency of the grinder.
To counteract this inconsistency a little I had to take the ground up beans and place them on a paper towel, rub them into the paper just so the smallest of particles layed stuck in the paper towel.
For the price tag this grinders good. Definitely not the best you can get but for a beginner coffee enthusiast this worked fine.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2021Verified PurchaseI like the fact that it is high quality plastic. It’s light and travel worthy. Most importantly, it can grind really fine in between espresso and Turkish grind size. The finest grind is so fine that some of it drops through the holes of the portafilter basket. At the third click my grind was so fine that water could not go through the coffee grind in the filter, so I had to adjust it back to the fourth (4) click courser from zero. I swear that this can grind Turkish at fine grinds if I want it to. Don’t believe any reviewer online until you personally experience it. I am very pleased with it. I don’t see myself upgrading to something more expensive for a while.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 22, 2023Verified PurchaseSetting the coarseness using the grind adjustment nut. This is an inexpensive grinder, and I did not expect it would have a numerical dial indicating the recommended "number" for various methods...ie espresso/pour over etc.. but it would be helpful if Hairo provided a more specific guideline rather than the chart stating the recommended fineness ....coarse to fine...which is a very subjective measure.
Fully closed (clockwise) is the finest setting. How many clicks or rotations counterclockwise from there are suggested for espresso.
I did try the full clockwise (too fine) Then backed it off about 3 revolutions...too coarse.
I finally managed an acceptable particle size, but in general the consistency at these various setting was poor. Consistency makes a big difference to the extraction and taste of your coffee. If taste is the most important criteria in your buying decision, I would suggest a more accurate/more expensive/higher end grinder...perhaps with titanium coated hardened stainless steel burrs.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 22, 2019Verified PurchaseBurr and overall shape seems about the same as the previous model, but the hex nut at the top is bigger (fixing a complaint about the old one) and the top fits more snugly. Feels overall like a solid improvement.
The new mill is grinding coffee a bit faster than the old model. It certainly grinds quickly enough at fine grind for a cup of coffee well before the kettle boils. It's easy to tip the grinds into an Aeropress with no mess. The ceramic burr is nicely done, it appears to be good quality and nicely engineered.
Its predecessor ground a pound of coffee (at least) every week for 5 years (before being dropped one time too many).
I'm pleased to say I'm very satisfied with the quality and performance of the updated model.

5.0 out of 5 stars É bom e eficaz, mas é bom ver o manual ou vídeo no YT

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo prodotto
