FYI: I bought this controller myself, and it is not part of the Vine program. Their pictures are gonna be way better than any I take so refer to them.

I never thought of Turtle Beach in terms of controllers. Headphones is their thing and I've had a few that were at best....meh.

When I saw this controller and what it offered in features and price; I figured I would check it out. I bought this for PC use only and do not have an XBOX, so if you're looking for XBOX related stuff....sorry.
I used a Playstation controller for a while, but they are not great (they're TERRIBLE) with Windows. I got a cheap Logitech to use until I could find a good one that I liked. Which ended up being this.

The button layout and ergonomics are pretty familiar and you won't need to relearn how to use a controller with it. The two programmable buttons on the bottom are good, but I found where they are positioned to be a problem as I kept unintentionally pushing them. I have larger hands so I have to adjust a bit how I hold it. They don't work for every button on the controller. Just the top L-R bumpers and not the triggers, the D Pad, XYBA buttons, and the joystick push functions only.

I would have liked to have been able to program the menu buttons for games like Destiny 2 and Division 2, but none of those are an option. All input functions are very responsive and accurate. One of the interesting features on the gameplay side is the ability to set up the so-called Pro-Aim Focus Mode. Simply put it just slows down your aim input to give you a bit more stability. It may be cool for you or you may not use it at all. Depends on how you like to shoot things lol

I don't really get what they mean by "cooling" grips as they don't feel any different to me than most others. They don't actively cool your hands, just claim that by design, your hands will stay cooler. Honestly, I didn't feel it.

I personally found the rumble function was so strong I turned it off. I like the DualShock feel, but this thing is like that on steroids. Super distracting when trying to pick someone off with a sniper rifle.

Headphone features are where it really shines outside the in game functions. It has all the controls you get on most TB headphones but will work on ANY headphone you plug in via the 3.5mm cable. I tried cheap buds, a Logitech Pro, and three other gaming headsets of varying qualities and you can make some meh headphones actually sound pretty cool. The side tone feature, (where you can hear yourself) worked with every headphone I used that had a mic BUT the ability to mix chat volume and game volume individually ONLY works on XBOX. Not a huge issue. You can change game volumes in game and make it work. I really liked the fact they put a mic mute button on the controller that turns red when you use it.

Makes keeping those sounds you don't want (or shouldn't make) your fireteam to hear out of the party lol. You know what I mean. Plus if you're one of those annoying types who likes to eat while playing, you can spare your friends the sounds of your mouth. This isn't ASMR. And...it's gross.

You can read, so I'm not going to repeat everything they already said. I will say that the one big issue I have with it is the USB connection. As most gamers know, USB is way more accurate and quicker than Bluetooth. So, we're more likely to have our controllers wired in. The problem I have with the USB connection on this controller is the same as the one I have with PS controllers: There's too much stress put on the USB connection by the 10ft long braided cable and I feel it will eventually fail at the USB socket just as every one of my PS ones have. Since this is a wired only controller, I kinda would have preferred it to have been internally attached.

Time will tell, but I can already feel some wobble in the USB connection. I don't look forward to it failing since it's wired only, you can't just switch to wireless and say Oh well... It basically becomes a brick.

I would have given it 5 stars but for the USB connection issue. The price is really good for all that you get with this and I got the black one only because they didn't have white in stock. It's an all around winner in the mid-range controller market and the sound features push it past anything at this price range. Let's just hope I'm wrong about the connection. Buy it. You'll like it.

I've had this thing for less then a year and it's already garbage. The connection port won't hold a connection ( ctype) and will continuously connect and disconnect with any slight movement. The vibration feature will also cause the controller to stop working and only allow it to be lit up. The controller has been lightly used, as i don't usually use a controller i prefer mouse and keyboard. Zero reason the controller can't maintain a solid connection while hard plugged to the pc or xbox. Would give it zero stars for wasting my money and being a defective paperweight at this point.

Do not buy. Your throwing your money away.

I bought this controller because I wanted an ergonomic, wired controller with rear paddles. The controller has some good features, such as the side grips, the smooth feel of the sticks and triggers, and very comfortable rear paddles. The audio controls are also convenient and nice to have.

However, there are some drawbacks that make it hard to recommend the Turtle Beach Recon Controller. The controller feels very plasticky. The sticks and triggers are hard plastic and not very soft to the touch. The coarse plastic nubs on the plastic parts to help with the grip feel very abrasive and a bit uncomfortable. I had to buy rubber thumb grips for the sticks to make them more comfortable.

The worst part about the controller is the D-pad. It’s very clunky and inaccurate. I can never reliably hit the direction I want. Every time I use the D-pad, I feel frustrated and disappointed.

Overall, this controller is packed with features and is relatively inexpensive, but it has some major flaws that affect the overall experience. While decent, if you're able to spend a bit more, there are better options to consider without these problems.

THIS IS NOT AN IN DEPTH REVIEW. I will not cover the audio side of it or the programmable buttons.

I bought this replace an XBox One controller that was used for PC gaming. While I didn't want to go back to a wired controller, it was something I was willing to consider.

The connection for it is USB-C, and the cable supplied is braided (feels quality), but also extremely long so if it's going to be used at close quarters you might want to get a slightly shorter cable. As for installation it's plug and play with Windows 10 and 11 (and probably earlier OS versions), and once it's been detected by Windows, you're good to go. Or at least you'd think so.

If the controller is shipped with the 1.03 firmware, after a while it can power itself down. Once this happens you have to unplug the controller from the PC and plug it back in again. This is far from ideal because there's an added level of stress on the components and sooner or later something is going to break. After a bit of investigation, it turned out that the controller needed to have the firmware updated. I went to the Turtle Beach site, downloaded the software, and the firmware was updated pretty quickly. This seems to have fixed the issue, so if you have this problem then there's the fix.

In use the controller feels sturdy enough. Flex is at a minimum (you really have to apply crazy pressure), and it's not overly heavy nor unduly light. It's got a really nice texture and it's also not as prone to making your hands sweat. You can use this controller for ages and it not be a problem.

Something that counts in it's favour is the travel distance of the triggers and sticks. They're slightly less than on a standard controller and this leads to less input lag (smaller dead zone) and increased responsiveness. If you play FPS or racing games then it's definitely better than a lot of other controllers out there. I play a lot of racing and simulation games, and I've noticed that my game has definitely upped ever so slightly. Anything that requires fine control (as opposed to fully depressing a trigger or going in a direction) will require a bit of refinement, but it's not unduly difficult and pretty soon motor memory will kick in with the new values.

Something worth noting is that there are also trigger buttons underneath, and these can be mapped to functions. If you've ever driven a paddle shift car or used a paddle shift control wheel, it feels quite natural using these as gear shift buttons, but they're also useful for FPS and simulators.

The buttons also have just the right amount of tactile feedback, and you can be fairly confident that a press has registered. Tactile feedback is also where it fails as well. The vibrations are mediocre at best. I've had controllers in the past that have been physically unpleasant to hold and I'm surprised they haven't shaken themselves apart because of the vibrations, but this is a bit of a buzz (my XBox controller danced all over the desk, this doesn't). I don't particularly like overpowered motors, but these could definitely do with a little more oomph.

There's the nice addon of a screenshot/video button. This seems to tie into the XBox PC app, and a short press grabs a screenshot, while a long press activates screen recording. This seems to be handled by the XBox client and overlay, but it's useful enough to hit without requiring you to remove your hands from the controller.

As far as the lights on the controller go, they're not bad. Visible in bright lighting, and not glaring in low light conditions. When you're playing, you can easily reference what you want, but it's not bright enough that it's drawing attention away from the screen or ruining your vision in low lit areas.

If you're a mid level gamer then you can do a lot worse than this controller. Everything seems to be done to the "just right" specification, with possibly the exception of the vibration motors.
