    Reviews on this one are definitely honest. Had a rather large roof rat and this got him within 24 hours. Used generic brand peanut butter. Easy to clean and reuse. Better than hiring an exterminator as far as value goes.

    The only thing I can say negative is that while this trap was effective, it was disheartening to find that the animal suffered. I was hoping for something that would break its neck and be rather instantaneous, however it eventually asphyxiated the target. The rat was rather large as roof rats usually are, so maybe more humane to a smaller species.

    I am satisfied at the end of the day and would recommend this for rats. Excellent value and easy to use and reuse design.

    i had a rat problem.
    I put out 3 of these type, and 3 of the classic old school wood ones.
    These caught 0 rats.
    The classic wood ones, caught 3.....

    I will say though, these are a breeze to set.
    i think the rats are just put off by the jaw style opening.... perhaps.

    Maybe buy both styles, like i did, incase you have cautious rats like me.
    If your rats are dumb, these might work.

    No bird feeders in our yard (a few neighbours do). After our dog almost caught her snoot in the trap (smelled the peanut butter), we decided to put the trap in the shed (has small crack big enough for rats to get in, but not with the trap attached). Also prevents birds, etc. from being killed.
    Last year we caught over 30 rats. 1 had just their foot in it and we used an old broom to bring it over & released it to live another day. 1 wasn't quite dead, so we covered those with paper towel and used a mallet to quickly put it out of its misery.
    Inside the shed we place the trap (cup with peanut butter) facing the wall to ensure a kill.
    We received the new traps and in 3 days (the rats come out at night) had 2 more kills. We check the trap each morning.
    We also never touch the rats. We use the plastic bags we used for vegetables/fruit at the store - and place the dead rat in one, tie up the bag, then put that into an old plastic bread bag, and then put that bag in the garbage bin. To put more peanut butter in the cup, we use plastic gloves (ie. what the hospital uses).

    I have used these traps for close to 10 yrs now. Out of the 6 others I have bought before (in town) I have lost only 1. Maybe dragged away or another animal took it.
    I attach these on wood 2"×4"x 16". I let the trap end extend beyond the wood so the bait cup is accessible from below. I also attach a brick or paver to the other end of the board. Since then I have never lost a trap and they don't jump, spin around or get dragged away when set off. They stay above any water and small snowfalls.
    The 16" board makes it easier to set and retrieve when placing under a deck,car, BBQ, etc. Also easier to set on a table let it hang over and dispose of your rodent in a bag.
    Sad part is I have caught a few small birds too. Looking at making a tunnel or screen to keep birds out but allow rats in.
    I have never had a trap break or even had the plastic Crack or chip. Just wash them on occasion with the hose or sweep them out with a small hand broom.
    Comments that other rodents won't get caught because they can smell previous dead animals has never been an issue. I guess my local rats are just not that worried about fine dining and the atmosphere.

    These are phenomenal traps! There has been a ton of rats and mice in my neighborhood over the last couple years, and they're really becoming a nuisance.
    That said, conventional mouse traps didn't really cut it, so figured I'd try these.
    I set 2 traps: one in front of my garage door and then went to put another in one of my sheds, and before I had the second trap set up, the first took out a chipmunk - and it was instant.
    I used about 1/8 tsp of chunky peanut butter in the cup (doesn't matter what kind, the one I used was Great Value), and to sweeten the deal, I added a single peanut on top.
    In the week since, I've gotten a chipmunk, an unfortunate squirrel, about 6 mice (maybe more) and a massive rat.
    These traps are phenomenal and I fully intend to get a couple more to set around the property to hopefully get the rest of the mice and rats out of my other shed and the garage.
    Can't recommend these enough!
    The best part is they haven't made any mess at all, and I've only baited each trap once so far. And I love that you just place the trap where you want it, and then just step on it to set it.

    Proceed with extreme caution if using outside. The trap will do the job IF the rodent is large and positions itself so the trap jaws snap shut crushing it. The trap may not kill instantly or it may only catch a limb. It may not trigger if the rodent is small. It can cause prolonged agony which will result in an additional dispatch method. Keep away from pets who may investigate the trap. Maybe get a real cat...
