- Reviewed in Canada on July 14, 2024Verified PurchaseI’ve seen this product in some model iteration for years and have ignored as I believed it was just junk science. A gimmick. But the mosquitoes on our veranda this summer have been relentless. Living well north of a big city and in and amongst a property with surrounding forrest, it’s usually brutal in July to sit outside on a nice evening.
So out of desperation and having read too many positive reviews I thought I would give this a go.
This has gadget has been at up on a deck attached to the house and measuring approximately 20 feet by 20 feet.
After allowing this unit to create its barrier (maybe 15 min) I can’t believe the effect it has had. It keeps those little blood suckers away. In fact it keeps all the insects out of the zone it keeps. Even the moths that are without rival when a light is on.
But the mosquitoes are key and this Thermacell EX-90 product works. I find it fascinating as I was using those coils you light and let kindle all night, to no help. Something I’ve done since the 1970’s but hoping it would do something one decade.
Ok, so what’s the catch and why doesn’t everyone have this product? Simple, this takes cartridges full of whatever solution they use. And it sucks it back like a big block Chevy engine did with gasoline in 1969. Ok I’m done with dating myself. I’m disappointed at how fast this goes through the cartridges containing the fluid. I have found that one full cartridge goes for about 7 hours. These cartridges are just shy of $30.00 each (including tax) on 鶹 Canada. So you did the math.
I have justified the cost as the item works amazingly well and allows me to enjoy some summer evenings on my deck, with my lovely wife and solve the problems of the world without getting constantly stung by the pesky mosquitoes. It isn’t every night we need to use this Thermacell device, luckily. Mostly on very warm, still nights. My wife and I figured, if we use it economically, and since it’s a handful of nights mostly in July, it’s worth it.
But I’ll state again, this thing works. It’s just expensive to operate in my opinion.
Recommended.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 29, 2025Verified PurchaseWorks great. Refills are expensive but worth not having bug bites.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2024Verified PurchaseI expect it works moderately well for home and places where there is electricity to charge depending on your time out. The refills are over priced. Their lower end product is better for walk in camping.
Please note they show as being Prime but are NOT transparent about returns and will charge you if you are dissatisfied with the product. I paid $152+13% tax for the product and refills and received $114 tax included back upon a return and the seller makes themselves unavailable for contact. They are not showing any return wording on purpose and overcharge on a return even when listed as Prime.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 10, 2025Verified PurchaseThe unit I ordered (July 2025) showed micro-USB in the product photos, but the unit I received has been upgraded to USB-C! Very nice surprise.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 5, 2025Verified PurchaseAfter giving this repellent several chances in completely windless conditions, it’s clear the only thing it’s repelling is hope. Mosquitoes are still moving in like it’s a five-star resort. Followed all instructions but same swarms, same bites, same disappointment. Not recommended unless you enjoy watching bugs breeze past your defenses.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 16, 2025Verified PurchaseEasy to charge up the battery. Very effective.
Would recommend getting a refill pack at the same time.
