“No one does funny, emotional, life-affirming love stories quite like Abby Jimenez. She just keeps outdoing herself." ―EMILY HENRY
There's no such thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediate yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong . . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake.
But after one incredible and seemingly endless date, Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be. Only no amount of distance or time is enough to forget what's between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 2, 2025Verified PurchaseThis is a book I'll remember (and won't shut up about)
Abby Jimenez has a way of writing wonderful characters, sweet romance and a story that envelopes poignant and pertinent issues of family, relationships (and often) mental health.
In Say You'll Remember Me, we meet a couple (Xavier is a vet and Samantha is in online marketing) who have a perfect first date. But when life soon separates them, they struggle with staying connected while also juggling all that life is throws at them. Samantha is a hoot who has a lot on her plate and Xavier is the 'outwardly grumpy with a cinnamon roll interior' perfect leading man.
This is a family drama with a sweet romance where Jimenez does what she does best - tackles many poignant issues with a compassionate and honest hand. In this book she focuses on:
- the toll on family caregivers who are caring for a loved one with dementia
- loss
- letting go of toxic family
- long-distance love
- impact of past trauma ...
Personally, the dementia aspect hit close to home as I have had a few family members who have suffered this horrible disease. As with many of her books, Jimenez advises readers to take care of themselves and adds trigger warnings at the beginning of her books.
“There is nothing more beautiful than being a witness to someone’s life. To know them inside and out and to be with them through everything, share the same memories. Memories are everything.”
Tropes + Themes:
- Long distance romance
- Insta-Love + slow burn (but it works!)
- Fun meet cute
- Dual POV
- Poignant family issues
- Animal love (with awesome pet names)
- Heartwarming and heartbreaking
Relatable and empathic, poignant and playful, this book had me giggling, tearing up and relating to these characters who burrowed into my heart. Filled with a strong secondary cast (including furry friends), family dynamics and condiment love, this book is full of humour and heart and I'm throwing all the stars at it. I cannot wait to see what Abby Jimenez comes up with next.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2025Verified PurchaseRead this book for bookclub - didn’t finish in time for bookclub. I love her writing so I would have picked it up eventually.
It was refreshing to have so much real stuff in a romance - though I don’t think their story is anything close to average.
Because of bookclub a lot of the bit moments were spoiled so I missed some of the shock value.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 4, 2025Verified PurchaseI was really looking forward to this book and have been waiting for months to get my hands on it. I’m an Abby fan and have read ALL her books and fell in love with all her fictional characters. Her books are an easy, page turner, binge worthy read, however this book so far was a little disappointing. I’ve gotten half way into the book and couldn’t stand Samantha’s character. Immature, childish, foul mouth, non relatable for a 28 year old character. It will probably sit on my night stand for awhile. The book did come in great condition though!
- Reviewed in Canada on May 2, 2025Verified PurchaseWhat happens when a first date turns into a deep and abiding connection but one of the couple is moving half way across the country the next day with no return planned? Abby Jimenez creates a beautifully endearing story of just such a dilemma and fills it with life, despair, choices and love. The author does a wonderful job of capturing not only the ups and downs of a family facing a dementia diagnosis but also of how it affects family dynamics. When Samantha realizes that her middle age mother has rapidly progressing dementia, returning home seems like the only answer. Unfortunately, that means leaving behind a man, Xavier, who seems to be her soulmate. I loved this story, even when I cried. This very emotional and well written romantic book is not to be missed.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 12, 2025Abby Jimenez is one of my must-read authors, her books always jump to the top of my TBR. While Say You’ll Remember Me has many of the elements I love about her writing, it didn’t land quite as strongly for me as some of her previous novels.
That said, Samantha and Xavier are both beautifully developed characters. Xavier, a compassionate veterinarian, is grounded, loyal, and always willing to go the extra mile for those he loves. Samantha is vibrant, quirky, and puts her family above all else. Their connection is definitely a case of insta-love, but it felt genuine and sweet enough that it worked for me. The long-distance relationship they enter into early on adds a layer of realism and emotional strain, and I thought Abby did a great job capturing just how difficult and draining that can be.
The novel also dives into some emotionally heavy themes, including advanced dementia and past childhood abuse. These topics were approached with care and sensitivity, but for me, they sometimes overshadowed the central romance. I found myself more focused on the emotional weight of those plotlines than the development of Samantha and Xavier’s relationship.
I also felt the ending wrapped up a bit too quickly. After everything the couple went through, I would’ve loved more time with them after all the hurdles they had to jump through.
Still, this was an enjoyable read overall, filled with the kind of lovable, layered characters Abby Jimenez always delivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Adore Abby Books
Verified PurchaseAbby Jimenez just never disappoints ...
like literally.
I have read every single book she has written and have loved EVERY.SINGLE.ONE.
I adore her. Read her books Guys. All of them! Just do it. You wont be disappointed.
This latest one Say You'll Remember Me just stole my heart.
Xavier and Sam's story is so gorgeous - I just couldn't put this book down and was hooked from the very first page.
This is a gem of a book and I absolutely loved everything about it. If you are a romance reader you will defo want to read this one guys.
Abby always writes so well and she has this perfect ability to masterfully blend romance with much deeper themes and family dynamics. 'Say You'll Remember Me' is a gorgeous romance read but as with her other books, this one is not just your typical 'chick lit' read guys. It is so much more than that. It is so relatable to real life & real world themes ~ this one contains detailed descriptions of someone with advanced dementia, mention of child emotional abuse, animal abuse and the death of a side character so check trigger warnings before reading if any of the above may be triggering for you guys.
The book sensitively explores these complex themes. It is so beautifully written and seamlessly combines romance with real life struggles.
We read about the impact of illness, familial responsibility and long distance relationships - all of which are very real and raw topics and Abby writes about them so well - they meld into the central romance storyline perfectly.
My own mam has Lewy body Dementia (she is 66 years of age), so this one was very close to home for me. I related to Samantha and her difficult family situation so much.
The characterisation is perfection. The characters are just so relatable, so real, so raw and just so well developed.
I legit fall in love with every male main character Abby writes LOL 😂
(I still think about Daniel from 'Part of Your World' ❤️) IYKYK! 🤩🤩🤩
This is a perfect, heartwarming, emotionally satisfying book and so very deserving of the number 2 spot for my Top5 books of the year 2025 - (just coming in under 'The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell' which has stolen the top spot)
Abby can for sure, make ya feel ALL the feels while reading ANY of her books ... and this one was no different. I laughed and cried many times throughout reading this one ❤️
I had been counting down the weeks for 'Say You'll Remember Me' to be released and was delighted to be gifted an advanced copy (Thank You Abby) in exchange for my honest review. It exceeded every expectation.
It's the perfect Summer read so add it to the list guys! I adored the Story, The Characters ... Basically everything to do with this book.
It made me laugh, made me cry but completely warmed my heart at the same time.
I cannot recommend it more.
I'll leave it at very deserving stars from me!
A must read!!!!

It had me giggling, sobbing, and completely smitten with Xavier and Samantha. Their story snuggled right into my heart, and their long-distance love struggle was as real as it gets. 5.0 out of 5 stars Ugh the long distance relationship is so relatable 😩😭
Verified PurchaseWow, this one really hit close to home…. I absolutely loved everything about this novel and can’t wait to dive in and review it with you guys. The main thing that shocks me, though, is that there is hardly ANY conflict in this novel and yet, it’s SO FREAKING GOOD. I’ll talk about the plot, what I loved about the characters, and obviously how amazing Abby Jimenez is at writing.
The first thing I want to talk about with you guys is obviously the plot. So, don’t expect crazy twists and turns throughout this novel. This is a strictly romance novel and honestly not spicy at all (I don’t mind this one bit, but some people do). It’s built around Samantha and Xavier as they try to navigate their feelings for each other being thousands of miles apart. That’s it. You would think that it would get boring, but nope. Abby Jimenez is obviously the queen of writing romance and it was just so beautiful. Samantha’s mom has dementia, which is why she moves from Minnesota to California. I would’ve liked a little more on why Samantha went to Minnesota in the first place, but that’s okay. Xavier is from an abusive family and opens his own vet clinic in Minnesota to prove to them that he’s successful. This is about the most conflict you get besides them trying to find creative ways to be together being so far apart. Like I said though, even though not a lot goes on, Say You’ll Remember Me is still totally worth it!! There were a few things towards the end that made me go, “hmm this is way too convenient”, but I’ll talk more on that in the spoilers.
As far as the characters go, I loved Samantha. There were times that she acted like a scared girly-girl and I absolutely loved that realism. She was the perfect middle child for her siblings in her personality (I can say that because I’m a middle child, too!!). Her relationships with her family and Xavier were so emotional at times that I found myself thinking, “Hey, I remember what that feels like, too.” She has definitely become one of my favorite female main characters. Xavier is a typical brooding, emotionally-insecure, man who honestly needs a lot more love in his life. I found some of his actions to be a little over-the-top (I mean, this guy was romantic AF). A lot of times I could tell he was written by a woman, so I think I would’ve liked a better perspective from the guy’s POV, but it wasn’t terrible, so it’s a small gripe. As a character as a whole, he was honestly charming and perfect, but like I said, sometimes it was a little too perfect.
So, the main reason I’m in love with this book is because my husband (before he was my husband) and I did long distance for what felt like decades (and was probably only three years). Everything that Samantha and Xavier felt was so true to how I felt that whole time we were apart. Finding creative ways to make the other person happy and make sure that you never lose sight of the relationship was always so difficult to navigate. This book reminded me all about that and the little things that my husband and I did to make sure our relationship worked. Long distance is HARD. This book honestly makes it kind of seem semi-easy. It won’t be like a romance novel, but you can always make it work if you’re both willing to do that.
Overall, I loved this novel so much. Say You’ll Remember Me was so much fun to read and review and honestly ended up being one of my top reads this year. 5/5 well-deserved stars and I can’t recommend it enough! If you love love like I do, you’ll adore this new romance novel by Abby Jimenez (a literal novel-writing magic-worker when it comes to romance).

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and heartwarming
Verified PurchaseThis was a wonderful read. It was also unexpected for me. I’m used to the slow burn and the focus being on whether the two protagonists will admit their feelings for each other. In Say You'll Remember Me, Samantha and Xavier find each other very early in the book. The depth of their connection is clear to both of them fairly early on and their communication is open and honest. The challenge for them is their every day lives and the fact that they’re separated by 2,000 miles. I loved seeing them take on the challenges that both their individual lives presented and the long distance between them - together. The thread throughout the book is memories, how precious it is making them and how heartbreaking it is when we lose them. I think this is my favourite book by Abby Jimenez…
