We are undergoing renos and there's a ton of extra dust in addition to our normal house dust, so I wasn't sure if it would stand up to the task....as you can see in the pictures collected a LOT of dust and dirt. I was actually pretty surprised at how much came out of the holding area since visually it seems smaller, but you'll be shocked at how much it can store!
One thing I was worried about was it falling down the stairs, especially since I have a weird transition strip at the top that I thought would trip it up, but we've had no issues! It also easily made it over our vinyl to tile transitions.
In the video you can see that it easily maneuvers around weird corners, so no issues with strange corners or items left on the floor.
There are a couple of quirks, however. My kids knocked over my earring stand and it sucked up a shockingly large collection of earrings and hair stuff as you can see in the pictures. They were pretty big, so I’m surprised it didn’t detect them. It can also get playing cards or larger scraps of paper stuck underneath while it’s running and it will drag them around a bit.
It also doesn’t handle our bathmats super well — they’re cotton without rubber backs, so sometimes it catches a corner and bunches the rug up. It doesn’t stop the Roomba or ruin the rugs, but it does push them around a bit. On other carpets with non-slip backs it works awesome, and it even detects when it's on the rug to engage the beater brushes!
One possible area for improvement is clog detection on the beater bar (the spinning brush). Ours got really tangled with hair and fluff, but it kept running like nothing was wrong. It still sucked well, and the brush was technically spinning, but I worry about extra wear on the parts with it being that clogged and not stopping. Probably an exception in our case because we had some temporary reno mats down that gave off extra fluff.
When the battery runs low or it’s done cleaning, it automatically heads back to the dock to recharge, which is handy. Battery life is decent. I need two runs to finish the entire main floor since it has to recharge in between, but it’s still way easier than vacuuming by hand.
This is my first Roomba, and I love it! It’s a great starter model and cost effective. It's simple, effective, and perfect if you want something easy to use without worrying about sharing your data or dealing with apps. Highly recommend if you want a hassle-free robot vacuum!
