Good hardware ruined by an almost unusable app!
2 out of 5 stars
Good hardware ruined by an almost unusable app!
EDIT: Removed two more stars for a practically unusable app. It’s impossible to edit rooms without getting errors every time. Unacceptably bad app brings my rating right down. I'm really impressed by this! Since it's the lower priced version of the Roomba, I wasn't expecting much but it totally surpassed my expectations. Let's get the bad out of the way first: It's quite noisy compared to my old robot vacuum. I had another brand - not a very big known brand - lower priced one (lower by about CAD$100 less), and it was a lot quieter BUT it didn't have as much power as this one so it may just be a necessary trade off?? The app is a little finicky. Editing the rooms gave me quite a few errors when I was doing things like splitting them and setting them up took longer than it should because I had to retry multiple times for seemingly no reason. It would just throw up errors over and over then on the third, fourth or fifth tries just accept the change. It seems to me like some kind of cloud/server problems, but what do I know? (not a lot!) It does seem to miss some random areas - just small bits here and there - and I don't really know why it does that. It's almost like sometimes it just forgets to come back and do them? The unit itself is a bit chunky, so with the LIDAR bit on top it doesn't fit under some items of furniture in my house. Probably worth checking the height of things you want it to go under to vacuum vs. the height of this before you buy it, as it is quite chunky. Now, on to the positives: My previous robot vacuum was OK, it did the job, but it would seemingly randomly vacuum the room with no logic to it (which took longer) and it didn't have much suction. I would normally have to go around with the regular vacuum cleaner after it had been around, to clean up any larger bits - like stray bits of cat litter - but the Roomba has more power and I don't have to do that anymore, so that's a nice luxury! It doesn't have too much trouble with rugs. Sometimes the rug will ride up, but it's always able to ride over it somehow. Once the account, rooms and app were all set up it's been pretty easy to use. I linked it to Alexa and now I just tell it to start vacuuming or to vacuum a particular room then off it goes - don't even need to open the app for basic usage like this. I only open the app to see how it's doing midway through a cycle, but that's probably a novelty that'll wear off after a while! I really like that you can draw 'no go' zones in the app too. I don't want the Roomba messing up the cat's food bowls or going onto a particular rug that gets chewed up in the spinny thing so I just drew the zones onto the rooms in the app and now it doesn't go near. That's super useful to have and something my off-brand other robo vacuum didn't have. At time of writing this, the price is CAD $327.98 and I think I can understand why after using it for a while. My old sub-$200 robot vacuum was good, but it wasn't as powerful and it lacked some of the features this has like defining no go zones and mapping out the room. I like this vacuum a lot and it saves me a lot of work - it's not perfect, and it may be at the lower end of the Roomba range, but it does a good job cleaning the floors and getting around without too much trouble when there might be obstacles or rugs for it to navigate. Cheaper robot vacuums would struggle to do what this does, so I'd recommend this. It's working for me as does what I need as a basic vacuuming robot. As far as I can tell, the store page description is accurate and the store page images give you a really good idea of what you're getting. I also feel like it deserves a mention that the packaging is mostly recyclable, as that's another bonus in my book.

We really like the Roomba 105! It works right out of the box with no app or fancy software needed, which is great if you’re a bit skeptical of connected devices. You just plug it in, let it charge, then let ‘er rip! It zooms around the house picking up all the dust easily.

We are undergoing renos and there's a ton of extra dust in addition to our normal house dust, so I wasn't sure if it would stand up to the task....as you can see in the pictures collected a LOT of dust and dirt. I was actually pretty surprised at how much came out of the holding area since visually it seems smaller, but you'll be shocked at how much it can store!

One thing I was worried about was it falling down the stairs, especially since I have a weird transition strip at the top that I thought would trip it up, but we've had no issues! It also easily made it over our vinyl to tile transitions.

In the video you can see that it easily maneuvers around weird corners, so no issues with strange corners or items left on the floor.

There are a couple of quirks, however. My kids knocked over my earring stand and it sucked up a shockingly large collection of earrings and hair stuff as you can see in the pictures. They were pretty big, so I’m surprised it didn’t detect them. It can also get playing cards or larger scraps of paper stuck underneath while it’s running and it will drag them around a bit.

It also doesn’t handle our bathmats super well — they’re cotton without rubber backs, so sometimes it catches a corner and bunches the rug up. It doesn’t stop the Roomba or ruin the rugs, but it does push them around a bit. On other carpets with non-slip backs it works awesome, and it even detects when it's on the rug to engage the beater brushes!

One possible area for improvement is clog detection on the beater bar (the spinning brush). Ours got really tangled with hair and fluff, but it kept running like nothing was wrong. It still sucked well, and the brush was technically spinning, but I worry about extra wear on the parts with it being that clogged and not stopping. Probably an exception in our case because we had some temporary reno mats down that gave off extra fluff.

When the battery runs low or it’s done cleaning, it automatically heads back to the dock to recharge, which is handy. Battery life is decent. I need two runs to finish the entire main floor since it has to recharge in between, but it’s still way easier than vacuuming by hand.

This is my first Roomba, and I love it! It’s a great starter model and cost effective. It's simple, effective, and perfect if you want something easy to use without worrying about sharing your data or dealing with apps. Highly recommend if you want a hassle-free robot vacuum!

simple but so simple to set up and really gets all the nooks and crannies

i have to admit that vacuuming is one of those chores that i often fail to get to on a regular basis. this has solved that problem. it is super thorough and you can set how much cleaning you want (light, normal, heavy) and it will take multiple passes if needed. the dust collector is pretty large and holds a decent amount, i had it do my whole main floor and it wasnt all the way full.

I found the set up really simple and the minimal dock is great as it is basically just a magnet charger so the base is slim. it needs some space but could be easily hidden.

set up on the app is easy, just let it run and it gives a really accurate map of the floor, you can then decide on where you want it to clean and the names of rooms. I set up schedules for dinnered areas on different days in order to have it run in different areas multiple times a week and get all the cleaning i normally miss.

it is really smart and doesnt bump into too many things but instead stops slightly short and spins the brush to that area to collect.

i am lowering a star because i find the app is a bit clunky. it didnt save most of my cleaning maps and doesnt show the map while it is cleaning. so if you dont care to watch then that is fine.

it did suck up a cord but was really easy to remove and stopped itself before getting tangled up.

it easily navigates uneven flooring and the suction is pretty impressive. i also really like how quiet it is, it doesnt soun like a jet like so many ive seen.

The comparable robot vacuum that I have is the Lefant M1. In comparison, the app needed to use the roomba is very glitchy, the battery life is abysmal, the height does not allow to go under some dressers and bed frames, and the charger is where the dust bin is.

The app barely works and takes forever to load when the roomba is running. trying to check the charging status, where it is in the house, and what rooms it has cleaned is not smooth. The battery life cleans about half of our house (less than 1000sq feet, minimal rug carpets, and one that is thick). It will clean for about 30 minutes, go to charge, wait a few hours until the charge is 100%, and then will finish the rest of the house. I started it at 0800 in the morning and it didn't finish its job until shortly after 12:00 today. The M1 is a bit thinner so it will go underneath our bed frames and dressers, this model of the roomba has too much stack height and will not clean these areas. Another inconvience is that you have to move the roomba away from it's charging port to empty the trash bin as the trash bin is located near the charging base. Then you have to make sure it goes back "home". Honestly, I had high expectations for this as it is a name brand. I would not go with this model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive—Are Roombas Making a Comeback?
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2025
    Verified Purchase
I originally bought this as a replacement for my Roborock Q5, but I may end up getting another one to replace my six-year-old bump-and-go vacuum.
The price is similar to a Eufy bump-and-go model, which was my first robot vacuum, but this one is on another level. With LIDAR and mapping, it feels much more advanced—closer to the performance of my Q5, which I recently gave to my mom. This is my third robot vacuum, and each experience has been completely different.
One surprise was the battery life—it couldn’t vacuum my entire house on a single charge, while my Q5 seems to last twice as long. Then again, the Q5 is nearly twice the price, so maybe it's not fair to say the battery is bad. If you're coming from a higher-end vacuum, though, you might feel the difference.
One feature I really liked is that it’s available without a mop, which, like many brands, increases the dustbin size. Without the water tank, the extra space is used for a larger bin, making it a great trade-off.
I also noticed it climbs over floor transition strips better than my previous vacuums. However, it doesn’t perform as well on carpet, so there’s a bit of a trade-off. Another thoughtful design choice is the side brush—it simply pops off instead of being screwed on. One of my older vacuums had a screw-in side brush that damaged cables, so I appreciate this safer design.
Another clever addition is the flap that acts as a backpressure valve—it prevents dust from escaping when you remove the bin for emptying. No more accidental messes on the way to the trash!
Some reviews complain about the app, but I think it feels very similar to Roborock's app, which I’m used to. If you’ve set up a Roborock before, you’ll likely find it familiar. The first thing the app asks is the "Name" of your Roomba, and I couldn’t help but smile—it’s such classic American culture to name your robot vacuum something special. One minor gripe: the QR code is on the box instead of the robot, but since setup is a one-time thing, it's not a huge deal.
My only real complaint? You can’t change the dustbin while it’s charging because the bin compartment sits right under the charging mechanism.
Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase. The quality and performance were exactly what I expected—maybe even better, considering this vacuum costs the same as my first one but comes with advanced features like LIDAR mapping

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible software ruining a great robot vacuum.
Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2025

First off if I was allowed to give the product zero stars I would, but it required 1. The unfortunate fact is that this is an excellent robot vacuum. It picks up more dirt than our regular vacuum, navigated great with lidar, and was easy to empty. All of these excellent attributes though are totally and completely cancelled but an unusably bad app for Android. (don't own an Apple device so I couldn't try it there). If you own Android devices just don't waste your time.

I am very tech savvy (build my own home PCs, set up my own wifi networks, and write SQL data queries and workflows for a living) and it took me 2 factory resets and an hour just to connect to the wifi. Currently it is 2025 and Roomba is putting out wifi powered products that won't connect to 5G networks (it has been a standard since at least 2009). We have a 2.4GHz network and I got it connected eventually and it seemed to finally be working. However the next day the robot will no longer feed location data through the app. Looking closer I can see the the wifi is no longer connected and it won't reconnect. The only way it was fixed was another factory reset. Then the same problem again the next day. Further it wouldn't communicate via bluetooth to the phone either. It was on it's dock and the app thought it was stuck returning home and wouldn't update. This means it couldn't take any new cleaning assignments and at this point was an electronic door stop.

The android app frequently freezes and had to be force stopped as well. The software is completely ruining what would otherwise be a great robot vacuum. Very disappointing experience from Roomba who I would have expected to be an industry leader in this regard.

We were forced to return the product because of it not functioning through the app at all.

I got this for my mom as a Mother's Day gift since she has 9 cats and 2 dogs and always jokes that she could literally vacuum the house every single day and get loads of hair off the ground. This thing works amazingly for pet hair, she runs it once a day and the picture attached is from a single run. The machine is linked to an app that maps out your house during set-up, and you can even make multiple different maps if say you wanted to only do the bedrooms one day and the living room the next. If it runs into something, it is not hard at all and quickly redirects. It glides over carpets very smoothly. It is pretty loud, but she runs it when she is at work so that doesn't matter. Highly recommend for pet owners!

I purchased the Roomba 105 on a recent sale for ~$200 and have never owned a robo vacuum before. I'm mostly aware of the much older models that bump navigate around homes and do a mediocre job of cleaning. I recently read about the implementation of Lidar for improved mapping in the latest line of Roombas so I thought I'd finally try it out. My first impression of the app is a very bad one. Setting up and connecting the Roomba was very difficult due to the app not detecting the roomba or failing half-way through the connection process. It took me the better part of an hour to get it all setup. After the initial setup, the mapping process was quick and worked very well. You can then use the app to modify rooms, create "no clean zones", and setup routines. However, most of this doesn't work well as the app errors constantly whenever you try and do most of those modifications. After charging the roomba a bit (charging is very slow) I tried it out, as the app map was more-or-less setup correctly after the initial scan. I'm shocked how good the roomba navigated the house with very minimal bumping into things during the cleaning process. When it does bump into something, it is a very light bump, but in general you can tell that the sensors and Lidar do an amazing job of helping the roomba nearly touch every surface without actually touching, so it cleans around edges of rooms and furniture pretty well. The roomba starts each room by cleaning the edges before cleaning in a back-and-forth grid pattern so that it really gets every square inch of the room. It all cleans very well in the dark, so you don't need the lights on. In general, I think it cleans very well except for some spots near cabinet toe kick space since the roomba is a tad too tall to get into that space. It navigates back to its charging station afterwards without any issue. I checked the dust bin after each room to see what it's actually doing and lots of dust and other junk is definitely getting picked up! To improve the cleaning I would recommend clearing the floor of small charging cables and setting "no go zones" in areas where there are thicker power cords as it tends to get caught up in those. Thin, light rugs also seem to flip up on the edges as the roomba passes over which gives it some issue as well, but it seems to do a good job of powering through those issues or backing up and trying a different way around. It goes over small thresholds without issue. In general, I think the Roomba 105 is a very good vacuum-only robot and it makes me want to try out more advanced versions in the future. I'm mostly docking 1 star because the app is terrible in its current state and I hope iRobot puts some significant effort into updating and maintaining the app. The app is integral to the roomba useage and I think people's experience will be heavily dependent on how well the app works in the future.

Start with the app: You have to use the newer "Roomba Home" app with newer models which is a disaster. Is supposed to show vacuum location while running, it does not. Is supposed to save cleaning history with map of each event. It does not, it has remembered only one event and it's map is blank. The app freezes my iPad and iPhone and I have to reboot them in order to shut it down. My 7 year old Roomba 960 with the required older app saves and maps every event.

Then the vacuum itself. The Lidar radar dome sticks out on top so it won't go under my couches or chairs, which my older model does. I raised my couches an additional 1" to accommodate the old model. They claim 70x stronger suction. Apparently they are comparing it to some ancient model. It puts out maybe 1.5x the amount of air as my 7 year old model.
It wouldn't vacuum under my bed because it saw the blanket hanging about 2 inches from the floor. It didn't even try. My old model has an option to do a quick cleaning without doing the edges. This new model doesn't and it takes a long time to do a room. The battery life is terrible. A 30 minute job of a large carpeted bedroom with walk-in closet took 30-minutes and used almost half the battery.
It does one thing better than my old model. It did a good job of mapping my 2nd floor and created 5 "rooms" which you can see on the map. You then can select individual room(s) to vacuum. So I gave it two stars for that.
