This 1:4 Scale Visible V-8 Engine Plastic Assembly Kit from Revell is the winner of the 2008 Parents Choice Award and Silver Honor - 1995 Doing and Learning Toys. What better way to see how an internal combustion engine works than to be able to see all of the parts move. As you turn the crank, each of the parts move, just like the real thing. The Visible V8 Engine features moving pistons and connecting rods. A hand crank operates the pistons, camshaft rocker arms and valves. The kit includes a rubber fan belt and vinyl ignition wires. A superb educational tool on the inner workings and construction of a V-8 engine.

    Overall I enjoyed putting the model together. Despite the box showing up in perfect condition, some of the parts were warped either due to production issues or how they were packed in the box. The camshaft had a definite bend in it that affected the ability for the pushrods to function correctly. Was able to get it back in alignment good enough to function. The oil pan was also noticeably warped.

    Instructions sometimes fail to highlight very important steps that affect later function and in some cases parts fit both ways and the instructions are not specific enough to make it obvious which way is the right way (until sometime later when something else doesn't fit). I was able to modify things without too much difficulty and am happy with the end product.

    If you take your time and test fit as much as possible this is an enjoyable kit to work with.

    Some of the larger parts were quite warped and took a lot of fitting to place properly. In some cases simply could not be quite fitted right. My husband has done his own motor jobs but still found the instructions extremely minimal and in places unclear, especially as to gluing. Consequently model does not quite work as it should. Disappointing. Otherwise an interesting and fun model to put together.

    I really enjoyed making the kit but found the descriptions a little confusing sometimes and 2 items were missing, which made it more difficult to construct, especially when one of the missing parts was one of the valve springs. I eventually found a spring from a pen that I could cut and make fit, but the tension on the spring was a lot stronger than the others.
