I bought this to retrofit an old garage motor door opener so I can both control it remotely and most important get status and notifications on the door activity. And this small gadget that costs only 40$ CA does everything and more! Installation is pretty straight forward. I used the Rufoss app ( I read reviews of people using other apps and I don’t know why). I powered the unit and set in the app in the house before installing in the garage. In the garage I taped it on the side of the motor so it can reach the contact activation screws. Of course you need good wifi coverage in the garage but that’s a given. The contacts on door are a bit tricky and you have to disconnect the door from the chain so you can manually move it up and down to get the right position for the magnet and switch and make sure the door doesn’t open and break your fingers. When this is done you power the unit and everything works! I had a bit of a stress at first as the door was opening but when closing was going down half way and coming back up. I went in the app and found a parameter called “Trigger duration “. It was factory set at 2 seconds. I changed it to the lowest 0.5 sec and the issue disappeared. Now everything is working. I get notifications on my phone and Apple Watch too. I can operate the door from Alexa (with a code) and from my Apple Watch too as follows: I say Siri open the Rufoss app and then I click on the watch and the door opens. Like I said this is a great gadget.
