Dolby Atmos for 3.1.2ch with Surround Enhancer

The VSX-832 supports up to 3.1.2ch Dolby Atmos*. Surround Enhancer*, developed by Dolby Laboratories, Inc., is a virtual speaker technology based on Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF). With DSP, virtual surround speakers deliver the sound that usually comes from surround speakers. The 3.1.2ch is virtually expanded to 5.1.2ch to create 3D surround sound field. Even those who have difficulty installing rear speakers can also enjoy various audio formats** in a wide sound field with Surround Enhancer, as well Dolby Atmos.

* Dolby Atmos and Surround Enhancer will be available with future firmware update.

** Except audio signals encoded by DTS formats

DTS:X

DTS:X is the next-generation audio codec from DTS that leverages object-based audio to enable new immersive and interactive audio experiences. Since DTS:X can automatically adapt the audio to the existing channels and speaker system, no specific speaker layout is required. Experience an immersive soundscape with incredibly rich and life-like audio.

Next Generation Video Standard Ready

The VSX-832 supports pass-through for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. By connecting the source device, you can enjoy these latest video standards on a compatible display. What’s more, all HDMI terminals support 4K, BT.2020, and HDCP 2.2, so you will have no problem when upgrading to new devices.832

MCACC Auto Room Tuning

Create the optimum acoustic environment with Pioneer’s MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System), developed with the expertise of professional recording studios. With the custom microphone, the system automatically compensates for differences in speaker size, level and distance, and equalizes response.

Synchronized Sound with Phase Control

As an innovative solution for the phase lag between the subwoofer and the main channel speakers caused by the bass management filter, Phase Control compensates the delayed bass to improve sound synchronization.

Reflex Optimizer

When using Dolby Atmos enabled speakers, high directivity sound from the unit reflects off the ceiling, while low directivity sound directly reaches the ears. The different pathways cause a phase shift, making the sound feel uncomfortable. The Reflex Optimizer which uses the Phase Control technology adjusts this shift, and improves the localization of the sound image by aligning the frequencies with those of the floor speakers, creating the ideal reproduction environment.

Multi-room Audio Offers a Variety of Ways to Enjoy Music

FireConnect mirrors network audio and external analog sources connected to the master component—from streaming services to vinyl records—on FireConnect-compatible speakers in other rooms. Music selection, speaker grouping, and playback management across the home are built into Pioneer Remote App for iOS and Android.

* FireConnect is enabled with a firmware update. Sharing of audio from external inputs depends on the model and is enabled with a future firmware update. Sampling rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz are supported. FireConnect is a technology based on Blackfire provided by Blackfire Research Corp., USA.

Chromecast built-in*

The VSX-LX302 features Chromecast built-in, so you can use your mobile device to stream your favorite music, radio, or podcasts to your speaker. You can control the audio from anywhere in the house using Chromecast-enabled apps running on your personal device—iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet, Mac and Windows laptop, and Chromebook. Discover Chromecast-enabled apps at g.co/cast/ audioapps.

* Chromecast built-in will be available with future firmware update.

DTS Play-Fi

DTS Play-Fi* wirelessly streams any audio content from any compatible mobile device to the VSX-LX302 and DTS Play-Fi compatible audio systems, creating a multi-room system in your home. You can stream different sources to different speakers at the same time from the DTS Play-Fi app.

* DTS Play-Fi will be available with future firmware update.

Built-in Dual Band Wi-Fi

Enjoy network features such as audio streaming via wireless LAN connection. The built-in Wi-Fi is dual band, supporting both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency channels. By using the 5 GHz band, you can enjoy steady and uninterrupted streaming of audio files.

Refurb doesn't work.

Refurb doesn't work.
Normally I wouldn't give something a bad review for just receiving a defective unit since all electronics have about a 6% failure rate. However, I read all the reviews on this unit and decided to take the risk of purchasing it for $200. Some of the reviews I read mentioned that their unit didn't work, they would turn it on and it would just shut off after a few seconds. This is exactly what my supposedly refurbished unit is doing. I am currently in the process of trying to get a return label so I can send it back for a refund. If Pioneer sent out bulletins to their service centres on how to correct this fault, apparently their fix doesn't work. The receiver I am replacing is a Pioneer that lasted about 8 or 9 years. Now it is freezing, although the audio still works. I connected the new receiver exactly as the old receiver was connected. I have triple checked my connections (I am a technician so this is common practice for me). It turns on, and even worked with the same settings in my Logitech Harmony universal remote, but every time it was turned on, after about five seconds it just shuts off again. This happens whether the remote is used or the power button o the front. This is the second time I have purchased a refurbished item off of 鶹, and both times the unit I purchased was defective (this receiver and a car stereo). I don't think I will purchase any more refurbished units from 鶹. I no longer have any faith in them.

It supports Dolby Atmos in a 3.1.2 configuration. The enhanced dolby surround sound setting will amaze you and have you thinking it is a 5.1 not a 3.1 setup
The height channels double as surround channels for 5.1 setup however this provides no access to dolby atmos in the 5.1 configuration. One solution to this is the use of the supported DTS X codec setting which is likely available whenever the atmos setting is.
The included auto-configuration settings using the calibration microphone is adequate, not perfect, but at a minimum provide a starting point to what you desire in fine tuning.
The HDMI throughput is astonishingly good, providing clear crisp video including 4K HDR. HDMI-CEC works well but is not perfect much the same as other receivers I have had. Bear in mind the more CEC devices connected the less likely you will have perfect control.
Input options include built-in audio chromecast, AirPlay, net platforms such as Spotify, TuneIn and Play Fi. One thing to note I could not get the Play Fi app to open 鶹 Music on my phone, likely a Canadian 鶹 issue and hopefully will be fixed in a future update. It sounds as good, possibly better than any other low to mid priced receiver with speakers that meet your music and movie sound expectations.
A great value in providing higher priced AVR options.
For those who report a heat issue I recommend getting the AC Infinity MULTIFAN S7. I have had the home theatre on for hours on end and the receiver is as cool as if it were not on.

Very happy with this item. While it is a refurbished item, you would never know other than it came in a generic box. The receiver itself is very easy to setup with the user friendly on screen interface. The ability to customize inputs, omit them from the lists, change the names, etc is great. The sound quality is very good for my setup which is just a pair of bookshelf speakers in my living room with a couple of ceiling surround speakers. The remote is simple and the apps for your phone work great. The only thing I didn't realize was that it doesn't have upscaling from SD to HD, only from 1080p to 4k. So the composite inputs will pass through at SD, disappointing if you're connecting a Wii, etc. My fault for not checking first. Overall I am very pleased with this receiver for the refurbished price I paid.

I bought this refurbished to new condition, with a significant discount. I would have probably considered it too expensive at full retail price, however I have to say the build and sound quality are amazing for the price range.
It has endless functionalities and input options including built-in chromecast, Apple AirPlay, streaming platforms like Spotify and TuneIn.... And if you're an audiophile on a budget, the lack of speakers is great, as you can buy your own and build your modular system of choice. It supports Dolby Atmos with the least possible number of speakers (3.1.2) and it's perfect if you can't/don't want have cables around your room. If you do though, you can use the height channels as surround channels for a traditional 5.1 setup (with no dolby atmos support though). The auto-configuration settings (calibration microphone included) are not perfect, but they can be tuned afterwards. It fully supports HDMI-CEC (turns on-off automatically with your tv and/or streamer box) and the power available is more than enough for almost any kind of speakers. It's a good all-around choice if you're into both music and movies. Sure, you can have a better AVR with more channels.... for twice the price. It sounds amazing, and I would recommend this to anyone wanting to upgrade their TV or stereo system. Just pair it with the right speakers! (Hint: if you want to stick with this brand, Pioneer makes just the right ones...)

I loved this receiver the short time I had it. It was a returned receiver and was seller refurbished and on sale, so the price was right. Anyhow only worked for a week or so which happens. Once applying for a return everything went into slow motion which put me off a bit. I did buy another brand which was more than twice as much from local store which again were on sale, but was new in box. Anyhow all is good now and would buy seller refurbish again when ever I can to save some dollars. thank you.

I bought this receiver to update my 32 year old VSX-3300 pioneer receiver not because there was anything wrong with it but because it was outdated and didn't have the connections needed for todays TV's , blueray's ..etc..
After a lot of research and reading reviews I bought the VSX-933 and it has been great. Very easy to use and setup and everything works as it should. I'm thrilled to see Pioneer is still making a quality receiver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb sound reproduction and bass output, even without a subwoofer!
Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2018

It just doesn't get any better for the price. This thing is freaking awesome! I replaced a 22 year old Technics that put out pretty good sound, I was nervous about getting something that sounded at least as good. I have another Pioneer that is set up to a complete home audio surround system, complete meaning with sub and all, but this one is just for a living room with two floor standing 30 year old Fisher speakers. I was worried about bass reproduction and sound quality with such old speakers. There was no need to worry. Even with the old speakers, this thing rocks the house and produces some pretty darn good sound. What a joy to listen too. Can't wait to get a better set of speakers...

It's a little difficult to set up, calibration wise, since it doesn't have many instructions in the manual, and the remote is a little different than my other Pioneer. However, since I had some experience with Pioneer, it wasn't to bad for me. I didn't have to look online for instructions for this one, but I did for the other so I know it's there and easy to understand. I like that it has settings to set the size, distance, and sound level for each speaker. It also allows you to designate that some speakers may be missing, so it reproduces sound correctly for your particular setup. I would like to add that it is important to go through all the different sound modes to find the sound that fits your situation. It took some time to find my preferred setting, on both systems, and they are not the same. So play with it and find your best setting. Oh, and by the way, the Bluetooth connects pretty solid. I am connected to my iPad and playing from 35 feet away, through furniture, while I type.

I spend a few weeks selecting an AVR to replace my old Denon, which only had 5.1 channels. This Pioneer VSX-LX303 was the most affordable AVR capable of a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos configuration and passing 4K content to my new projector. The quality of the sound is as good as my old Denon. I would need much more expensive speakers to find out which one sounds better.

The only thing I missed was my old Denon display, as it was less conspicuous. The Pioneer's is green with huge font.

The configuration process was effortless. I used the included microphone to set speaker levels and delays based on distance from speakers to the primary listening position. The configuration process took only a couple of minutes. Much faster than my old Denon receiver.

Changing from Stereo for listening to music to Dolby is very easy using both the control or the control panel. It shows that Pioneer designers put much thought into the user interface.

Initially, I thought that the ability to play music on two additional zones was a plus. I was thinking about adding speakers to my living room and plug them unto the corresponding channels with banana plugs for when we have a party at home. However, it would need a change in the configuration. I am not sure if I will do that, as it will take some time to reconfigure it from multi-zone back to 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos.

Also, the two subwoofer channels are not stereo. Both of them play the same signal. This does not matter if you will use it only to watch movies, but it is important when listening to music, especially if your speakers are small.

Wifi connectivity and the ability to play music through Spotify as a nice bonus. Primarily since I already use google assistant and google home. Spotify detected it automatically and worked every time. My wife is an IOS user, and she uses airplay to play music without any issue.

It's awesome. I didn't need 7.1 or Atmos. My system rocks for movies. I just needed a good receiver/amp that does 5.1 and has HDCP 2.2 HDMI to be compatible with my new LG OLED UHD 4K TV and it rocks. Sounds great. Plenty of power. Works awesome with my new TV and my new ROKU Premier plus which has a lot of 4K UHD video, but looks awesome with my Directv 1080P Upscale material as well. Love it.
