I got this for my small Jackchi who is very vocal at times (separation anxiety). First time I left this on my dog (6 months age), I did it with a dog camera on to notice the effect of the shock. It was actually a bad shock. But I spoke to my dog right away (as per others instructions) and signalled her to stay quiet when the collar is on.
This was the first and last time my dog made noise. My dog is 10lbs so the shock was definitely overwhelming. Slowly and slowly my dog is beginning to understand why this collar is put on her and she is becoming less and less anxious with it on. Without the collar, I can leave her for an hour or so.
If you absolutely have to buy a shock collar, go for this, but I believe you need supervision when it takes effect. Don��t leave your dog in pain and puzzle. Lots of apps out there that help you communicate with your dog when you are outside. It doesn��t have to be a ��furbo��.
Use this as a last resort but it��s effective.

This is HUGE yet it is the only PetSafe collar we could find that claimed it would fit out little yappy, bossy Chihuahua. It sort of fits the little guy, but it doesn't take much for it to get out of position. It has to be in position to work. Also the throat piece that is the behaviour correcting mechanism is cumbersome and the prongs are really protruding. We have another larger PetSafe No-Bark Collar for our other dog, and the mechanism is on HALF the size, yet made for larger dogs! Seems wrong and unfair.

When the product can stay in place, it can be effective and work as described.

I was going to return this collar after using it initially- it��s hard to tell that it��s working until you see it��s working. My dog has a bad habit of barking at people and has no discretion. With this thing he learned quick and now doesn��t ��jump to conclusions �� and just bark straight off the bat. It��s made life a lot more pleasant for him and me. I do wish you could turn it off when not using it so the batteries don��t run out as quick or if it were rechargeable that would be ideal. Anyways, it��s a good tool for training and it works well.

First of all, your dog needs to bark. This isn't the kind of thing you leave on your dog for hours at a time.

However.

Our dog does have periods where she goes nuts barking, especially in the middle of the night. We don't use the bark collar normally (and when she barks excessively during the day, all we have to do is hold up the collar and she stops) but it comes in amazingly handy in the middle of the night.

The shock itself isn't too extreme: I always make sure that I shock myself on the inside of my wrist before I put anything like this on my dog. It's just strong enough that she can feel it, but she's never yelped or anything, and mostly just stops and grumbles her way back to whatever she was doing before. It gets stronger apparently, but she hasn't needed that.

Anyway, great collar. Not a Chinese knock-off either: we bought ours in late 2019, and it's still working fine in March 2021 (though we've had to replace the proprietary battery a few times). Highly recommended if you're looking for a static-based bark collar.

I bought this same collar almost 9 years ago for my then puppy and I STILL have that same one. With the addition of a new puppy this year to the family, I knew that I wanted a second collar for the new dog when she��s big enough to be able to use it. My older westie doesn��t mind her bark collar - coming willingly to have it both out on and taken off - and half the time the battery is dead and she doesn��t even notice since at this point it��s more of a reminder not to bark rather than being used as an actual shock collar.

One thing is that I��ve had to replace the red nylon collar part of my older bark collar, but it was easy enough to attach the functional part to a new (and prettier) standard collar when that was required.

I'm so dissapointed with petsafe for this product.
We bought these because they seemed like the exact same as the guardian brand bark collars we got previously but don't make anymore. They aren't even remotely similar.

1)You have to buy their batteries so they can make more money .. fine .. fair
2) they only come with small prongs so if you need bigger prongs you need to buy those too... getting a little excessive
3) they don't freaking work!
I have 2 hound dogs and they can still easily bark.. and do bark while wearing the collars . My 1 hound barked for like 2 minutes while wearing it.

We have two dachshunds that bark at EVERYTHING. Once one starts, the other joins in and they keep each other going. I work at home and have kids at home that constantly play with them, so it is not a lack of attention - they simply love to bark.

We tried the citronella collars for a while. They helped, but my dogs like barking more than they hate the citronella, so it didn't really stop them from barking. They learned that 20 or so sprays later the collar would be empty and they could bark all they wanted. They also learned they could jump up on people's lap, turn their head, and bark to spray people in the face (I know, I deserve it for putting the collars on them :).

So, I researched static collars a bit. So many choices - vibration detection, sound detection, vibration and sound, multiple levels of shock, user configurable programs, etc. In the end, I just decided to buy two of the cheapest ones I could find to see if they even worked on my dogs. I figured if they worked, I'd consider buying better ones.

These collars work great. I have no plans to buy anything more expensive. I was worried that with just a vibration sensor that they might go off when they wrestle with each other or the kids play with them. This just doesn't happen. I was worried that one might bark and the other would get shocked. This is also not a problem. The collars work flawlessly when they bark and never misfire when not barking.

I really didn't want to go route of shock collars. I know some people think they are so cruel and that all dogs can stop barking with a bit of love. I was in that camp for a while and is why I tried the citronella collars at first. However, after using these for a couple months, I'm not feeling so bad (I know, I'm not the one getting shocked). The collars emit a loud "beep" for the first few barks. If the dog stops barking, then there is no shock. If they continue to bark, then the collar starts with a mild shock and increases the strength as the barking continues. My dogs did get a few shocks when we first started using them. You do feel terrible when it happens. But, it was a quick lesson and now the dogs never get shocked. They have probably been shocked 5 times each in 2 months. They still bark occasionally and "test" the beep, but then they stop before the shock.

The only negative I have is that the collars have to be centered on their neck for the vibration sensor to work. Sometimes my dogs can spin them off to the side and are free. But, I like that my dogs can outsmart the collars occasionally - they deserve that. I'm still running on the original batteries after a couple months, so not really sure how long they last.

So, they work good for us. I do see a fair amount a negative reviews around here as well. I don't wish to discredit any of them. I do think all dogs are going to react differently to these things. I bought the cheapest collars I could find thinking I would either stop using them if my dogs had a hard time with them or buy better ones if they seemed to be working. These collars are perfect for us, so I'll be sticking with them.
