This is a fabulous compilation of really awesome Elvis songs. For a new Elvis fan, it highlights his early Sun record singles from the '50s, his studio recordings from 1969, 1973 and 1976. And it also has the complete homecoming concert that took place in Memphis in March of 1974. The set is a great overall look at Elvis's talent and how his singing voice and song choices changed over the years. My favorite CD is CD 2 which has a great selection of songs which showcase Elvis's fantastic vocals. The overdubbing of strings, horns and backing vocals have been removed so we hear simply Elvis's voice along with the main band. I love his music with the big band and backing vocals, but this is a nice change! It makes you feel like you're a fly on the wall in the recording studio hearing him as it sounded to him and his band players while they play together. There is also a beautiful track that surprised me: Don't Cry Daddy, which is Elvis's voice alone with piano and he is harmonizing with himself. I don't know how they did that but it sounds terrific! As a very dedicated Elvis fan, I love having all of this music on five CDs that I can listen to for hours!
