So I have read a lot of reviews but no actual numbers so I will post up my numbers here.

    Test System specs:

System: Host: nas Kernel: 5.4.0-37-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Console: tty 0 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)
Machine: Type: Server System: Supermicro product: Super Server v: 0123456789 serial: 0123456789
    Mobo: Supermicro model: X10SDV-4C-TLN2F v: 2.00 serial: ZM16CS053878 UEFI [Legacy]: American Megatrends v: 1.1c
    date: 10/03/2016
Memory: RAM: total: 31.26 GiB used: 19.92 GiB (63.7%)
Drives: Local Storage: total: 44.12 TiB used: 15.82 TiB (35.9%)
ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Western Digital model: WD80EFAX-68KNBN0 size: 7.28 TiB
ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Western Digital model: WD80EFAX-68KNBN0 size: 7.28 TiB
ID-3: /dev/sdc vendor: Western Digital model: WD80EFAX-68KNBN0 size: 7.28 TiB
ID-4: /dev/sdd vendor: Western Digital model: WD80EFAX-68KNBN0 size: 7.28 TiB

The drives are in a RaidZ1 setup

I ran 4 tests in 3 different configurations

Test 1: Sysbench (sysbench fileio --file-test-mode=rndrw run)
Test 2: Fio with 3:1 read to write
Test 3: Fio with random read
Test 4: Fio with random writes

    Configuration 1: motherboard SATA ports
Configuration 2: SATA card in the PCIe slot
Configuration 3: LSI9211-8I with the IT firmware

    TL;DR

The SATA card got about half of what the motherboard did for IOPS. This LSI card was the same or in some cases slightly faster than the built in sata ports

    Test 1 results:

I purchased this card for use in an Ubuntu 20.04 headless server. It worked out of the box with my 5x2TB RAID5 mdadm array with excellent performance. This card is a great option for software raid as the performance is excellent and the price is great because there is no hardware RAID CPU or battery backed cache to jack up the price. Just 8x6 full speed SATA3 6Gps ports. I am very happy thus far with this card and I would buy it again.

This product is sold as a retail version, with pictures of the retail box and manual and cd. This is not this version, it is a basic no-label product. In that form it is really hard to determine if it is the real product or a clone product like you can find in ebay for around half the price. I promptly returned the product due to this blatant attempt to misinform the consumer, trying to sell the product for something that it isn't. If you need instructions, or cd drivers. This is not the version for you. Also note that finding the correct drivers is also a challenge because LSI was bought by Avago, which then in turn bought Broadcom and rename themselves Broadcom LTD. The issue is the support sections forward you to other sections of the mentioned sites, and it is hard to find the downloads you need.

Came pre-flashed in with IT mode. Works perfectly with ZFS. Effortless and quick install. Using it on a Proxmox hypervisor with PCI passthrough to a TrueNAS (FreeNAS) VM.
