Normally I buy beans from a local roaster. I saw the price on Kicking Horse varieties and decided to gamble. I wondered about how old the stock would be, but the bag I got had an Aug 2025 best by date. Not bad, but probably still roasted at least a month ago, probably a couple months. Couldn't be any good, right? Well, was I in for a surprise. I chose the Smart Ass blend for the flavour notes listed and, believe it or not, they were surprisingly present. This is a medium roast, and looked about right. No oily beans here. I've tried them as a V60 pourover, as an Americano through my espresso machine, and even a turbo shot. To my unrefined palate, I'm getting a strong pitted fruit presence, like cherries. Some may like it, others may not. I liked it at first, but it kinda wore thin after a while for me.
For $12/lb on sale the value is definitely there, if fresh roasted isn't available. At regular price, I'd still rather get local fresh roast for $18/lb

I have been drinking Kicking Horse coffee for 10+ years and love it. I don’t love the cost though, now up to $19.59 at the grocery store! Before adding this to my weekly shopping list, I also check �鶹�� for current pricing and I consistently find options at a much better price. With my prime account, that also means free delivery the very next day. I am not picky on the flavor as I tend to enjoy all of the Kicking Horse varieties, they all are bold, balanced, robust and just make a great cup of coffee. Just be mindful of checking the sizing carefully, I have made the mistake of snagging a really great price only to realize on delivery that I accidentally ordered the very small size bag option, oops!

It'll do in a pinch but we didn't like this one much. Too fruity. We're used to using dark roasts so maybe this is a common thing with mediums, but it tasted similar to when a dark roast is under extracted, in a less acidic way. Hard to explain. Anyway, we much prefer their Kick Ass roast, so go for that one too if you like dark roasts.
