It tastes really good! Just like Kraft dinner. There is no directions for proportions on the packaging so I just had to guess. Also I found it didn’t thicken that well but that might have been my guessed proportions. Either way, it was a hit with the kiddos! They are excited about the prospect of picking different kinds of pasta for their Mac & Cheese and today it was bow ties! Having read on the package to mix with cold milk before adding to pasta I did so in a small bowl and then added to my buttered pasta.

    If you grew up eating KD in the 90's this is a real nostalgia trip. This is REAL. CHEESE. Kraft changed the formula years ago to a 'dairy' based product, but it's not real cheese. KD has tasted like garbage for years now. This tastes like the CLASSIC Kraft Dinner you grew up with. My tips: Add salt. They went light on the salt for this powder and that's good for people who need lower sodium. But to get the REAL taste of classic KD, be sure to get generous on the salt when preparing. I usually use about 4TBSP of the powder, plus a little milk and butter and of course, salt. Another tip: Mix the powder with the softened butter FIRST to help cut down on clumping. Then add the milk, while stirring slowly. Add hot pasta and you're done! IF IT'S BLAND: You either didn't a) use enough salt, and/or b) didn't use enough powder. Add more powder for a stronger taste!

    After seeing all those videos on Facebook re: bugs in KD noodles, I decided to try this mix instead of buying maggots from Kraft. The container is smaller than I expected and it calls for 1/3 cup powder for each cup of dry noodles so I was thinking "well this isn't going to last long". Tonight I made 2 cups of macaroni with this sauce mix. It was delicious! So much better than Kraft Dinner. My four year old ate his bowl full in record time. I was super impressed. It's worth the money and I will definitely buy this again. I cooked the noodles then drained them. Added the butter. Stirred. Mixed the cheese powder with milk then added it to the buttery macaroni. Stirred. Added pepper and a bit of garlic powder on top. It was awesome. 5 stars for sure. No bugs in sight!

    I am... was a kraft dinner addict... I would keep 5 boxes of original, shapes, sharp cheddar, 3 cheese and extra creamy at home... however a couple of months ago, they started to taste very bad... I thought I had a bad batch but more and more box would end up being bad... So I had to search for alternative...

    I got my first jar of this brand today (because the KD one is taking forever to arrive) and I couldn't wait to try it out :)

    I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and smell of this cheese powder. It is NOT KD (obviously) but it still has a very nice and mellow taste.

    The powder was kinda hard to mix with pasta, as others noted it would clump together a lot... (I tried it directly with some margarine and did not use milk), so i ended up with a couple of clumps sticked to the bottom of my "pasta pot".. (sorry I am french and do not have a large cooking vocabulary)

    I will try in the next few days making a sauce with margarine and milk next time... But even as is, the taste was really good so It will be nice experimenting over the next few weeks to find out the best way to make cheese pasta.

    Hope it helps someone in a similar situation to give it a try :)

    If you want to know what cardboard that's been dyed orange and ground into a fine powder tastes like, I highly recommend this product. If you want something that tastes like cheese then DON'T buy this. My idea was to make my existing mac and cheese just a little bit cheesier, so I prepared it as usual, and sprinkled this in for that extra oomph. OMFG, I wanted to cry. I've wasted more money on stupider things so its not a cash issue. Its more about me having to through away a whole meal of KD. It overpowered the deliciousness of the other cheese mix and corrupted every single helpless elbow macaroni in my bowl. I tried. First bite was a WTF moment. Second taste was a confirmation of the foulness. Third taste was me trying to figure out exactly what that taste was. Yup, it was cardboard. And trust me I know my cardboard. This wasn't a freshly open package of crafting cardboard. This was old moving box, sitting in your basement for 6 years cardboard.
    I'm going to keep it though. It will go with a small collection of things that I will eventually dare somebody to eat. You know, like ridiculously hot sauces or cans of foul tasting foreign fish.

    I recommend starting with a knub of butter to your pasta to help with mixing, and adding to your taste. Try it by adding some diced beef or chicken for added protein and heartiness!

    Hoosier Hill is absolutely the best place to go for shelf, stable, flavorings, and cheese sauce. I’ve tried the Alfredo, the regular orange cheddar powder and the Mac daddy cheese sauce. The consistency is spot on…you don’t need to use much, and you get a quick and easy dinner for minimal money. This can spread a long way. The value is definitely cheaper than fresh cheese that would go bad quickly or even grow mold. The shelflife on these I’ve had for better than six months. They are still good.     It has great cheese flavor, I’ve used in baked mac and cheese and on broccoli as a side dish. The value for the money, I’m kind of on the fence I mean it is powdered cheese so it’s processed dry foods with artificial color and flavor. The storage capacity is large but the jar was not filled so it’s deceiving. Not sure why the manufacturer didn’t just put it in a smaller container…. The smell of it is good it doesn’t smell like chemicals or additives, the flavor is great, the salt content is not too bad. I’m going to finish this container and try and different brand to compare but according to the reviews the flavor is not the issue it’s more of the container being deceptive. So keep that in mind.
