Yeah i managed to destroy the threads for my sparkplug on my snowblower. Couldn't screw it in anymore!

With this magical tool, i completely recreated a new thread that is made of steel instead of aluminium, which will not be easily destroyed by a steel sparkplug (which all sparkplugs thread seems to be).
I can understand that aluminium is better for heat but it is very easy to strip the threads on the carburator with a steel sparkplug. Doesn't even have to force it that much to do it! Designed failure at it's best my friend.

I've used my snowblower twice now and it starts without any problems and it did not explode yet (keeps fingers crossed! ;-)

The repair was easy even for a doofuss like me. I am NOT good at doing manual stuff and mechanic is my worse talent, so if i can do it easily, you can bet it is THAT easy to do! Very impressed.

Took all of 10-15 minutes to do the whole job.
    The instructions were very clear.
    Would recommend.

I bought this because the spark plug on my 1961 Triumph motorcycle sheared right out of the head. I didn't want to deal with replacing all of the seals, so I decided to do the repair with the head still attached to the motor. Most people cringe at the thought of getting metal shavings into the cylinder, but this tool made it relatively safe and easy. If you choose to leave the head attached, make sure you stuff a small grease-soaked rag into the cylinder before you start. Cover the tap with grease and only cut about a full turn at a time. Remove the grease and metal shavings from the tap after each cut. It's very tedious, but if you're careful and take your time you'll have no problems. Once you've finished cutting the new threads, try to run a finger around the inside end of the threads to dislodge any metal shavings that haven't fully broken off from the inside of the head. Pull out the grease-soaked rag and continue with the insert instructions. I used gasket-maker on the outside threads of the insert to ensure a good seal. After the gasket-maker had set, I fired up the engine with no issues.

Thought I'd give this one last try to repair stripped threads in an aluminum head on my Toyota Tacoma!

    This truly works amazing!

Some tips: make sure you have a vaccum or way to blow out the metal shavings that will drop onto the top of your piston. I used a snake camera before and after and could see the metal shavings very clearly... So it's critical you can get those out! I used a shop vac with a McDonald's straw :)

Also don't forget the red lock tight... If you don't use this the entire insert could back out next time you try to remove the plug.

Ordered this to repair a damaged spark plug thread in the head of an outboard motor. The tool itself is decent quality and the insert/punch combo works well, but it may not solve your problem right out of the box. First, the angle and shape of the plug hole in my engine head prevented inserting this tap all the way down to the larger diameter section I needed to use. Had to grind the smaller threaded section off the end of the tap so the larger diameter section could get into the tight space of the head. That was pretty quick (10 minutes) on a bench grinder with a hard wheel. Just remember to cool the tap frequently in a cup of water so you don't scorch the steel, and wear a mask because there'll be a lot of toxic dust. Second issue is the kit doesn't include a drill bit for the larger threaded portion of the tap. You may have to hunt around a few specialty tool shops to find the right size., and watch that the shank is small enough to fit whatever drill chuck you have!

Note that when using the insert you should also apply a little silicone to the threads to lock it in and ensure a gas-tight seal. Any good silicone like GE high temp or a silicone engine gasket sealant will work fine for a spark plug repair.

Finally, paying for shipping through Canada Post (my only option) was absolute crap. It shipped from Toronto for delivery to Ottawa and took more than a week to arrive. Really? I've ordered parts from Japan with free shipping and had them at my door in less than 48 hours. Inexcusable that a small item like this should take that long to arrive.

Worked perfectly as intended. Good instructions but I recommend watching a YouTube instructional to make sure you get it right the first time. Go slow when tapping to cut the new threads. I turned the engine so the spark plug hole was facing down. Stuffed a shop towel in the cylinder, pumped a little bit of grease into the hole so it was flush with the hole to make sure the chips got caught in the grease rather than stuck in the cylinder, lubed up the tap with wd-40, cut 1/2 turn and reversed the tap to break the chips, then another half turn in and remove so clear the chips off the tap to reduce the build up in the cylinder. Replace grease as needed and continue cutting. Be sure to use high temp rtv sealant around the outside of the insert to keep good compression

Mine did not come with instructions and I couldn't find any on the website or anything, so I was not aware that I was to use some RTV on the insert until after. I also was not completely sure how to set it into place with the included tool. Being my usual impatient self, I decided to figure it out myself and repair the drain plug hole on my dirt bike. After a couple issues, I got it to work. Since it works as intended, I won't give it less than 4 stars, but I was disappointed by the missing instructions
