Perfect for scanning 35mm slides you have control of the quality in Professional mode!

Perfect for scanning 35mm slides you have control of the quality in Professional mode!
I replaced an earlier model of Epson Perfection for scanning 35mm slides and other photos. The V600 Photo works well and uses LED light for the scanner so doesn’t have warmup time before scanning. Slides under and over exposed may be quickly fixed by using the auto edit feature. I receive the scanner and have already scanned over 200 photos... happy with the speed and results! I recommend this unit!

This is a simple. joyous scanner to use. The software is well thought out and very powerful. The ability to clean up files automatically while scanned (dust, scratches, etc...) is well executed with the hardware in the scanner. I started using it primarily to take 4000 old colour negatives and convert to digital. You can load up to 12 at a time if you have them in 6 negative strips. The scanning time is about 5 minutes per negative if you are using relatively high resolution (3200) and ICE technology to clean up the dust and small scratches on the negatives. The results were extremely impressive. With my set up each TIFF file was about 30MB and ready for import into Lightroom for further improvement. For regular printed photographs it is average and produces OK results. Try and find your negatives if you can. I also did 300 very old (50+ year old) family colour slides. They were in very poor shape and very faded. The recovery ability of this scanning software was amazing, particularly in the colour recovery. It was wonderful though to see the different colour tones of the old slide films of yesteryear. While tedious to do (I did about 100 per day while puttering around during late winter), you will never regret having converted them into digital for viewing at your leisure or with an electronic picture frame. If you use new high MP (24-36) digital cameras and appropriate lenses you will notice how good these new cameras are compared to old film cameras and lenses if you had only consumer grade equipment many years ago, particularly in the area of sharpness at 100%. I use it regularly now for scanning B+W film shooting I do now and avoiding the contact sheet step. I can review all the negatives and select the best ones for printing (via light and chemicals the old fashioned way) much better than the old test sheets. If you wish you can instead print them digitally on a high quality photographic printer (yours or in store). It will also act as a regular scanner for documents etc... All this at an unbelievably low price and great 鶹 service.

Yes is not cheap. But I had more then 5000 slides I wanted to keep. A friend of mine lend me its Epson V600; I wanted one. You must know that IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME! Overall from 3 to 7 minutes per slide. Ya ! You must pick up to 4 slides from the carousel, clean them with a non fluffy fabric, transfert them to the mat, start a preview (more than one minute) then, one slide at the time, check what can be done to improve it, start the scan (3 to 5 minutes) and finally put the slides back. But the result worth it! The Epson does a very good job. Its ICE tech removes most of the scratches and dust but it still needs a good clean up before. I've have some 3000 slides to go... It does very well documents scanning up to letter size (not legal as advertised). I've scanned a few paper photos too and some negatives films; it came out very good. I recommend.

Forewarning: I ended up returning this to 鶹. The scanning quality on this is GREAT. It even includes a tool for scanning negatives, and has something called "ICE Technology" which fills in imperfections like rips on your photographs. However, this is a flatbed scanner so you will have to load each photograph individually. Depending on the resolution you choose (it can scan at up to 6400 x 9600 dpi!), you can be waiting either 2 seconds or several hours. Yes - scanning at a high resolution with ICE enabled can result in a scan time of SEVERAL HOURS. Mind you, this will result in an image with an epic file size but one of incredible quality. However, don't expect a lightning fast machine with ICE enabled. This also has a feature (if you use their software) that lets you place several different photos on the bed, and it will separate them into individual files. I found this feature to be VERY finicky, and it often scanned two separate images as one. The placement on the flatbed has to be rather precise, or it won't be successful in scanning several photos at once. These issues led me to return the scanner to 鶹 - but overall, if you won't make use of the extra features and want a simple desk scanner, this could be for you. However, if that's all you need, lesser priced options may be sufficient.

Working great, and the quality of the images it produces is great, especially slides. I was very impressed with the quality of the slide to digital image conversion. The image preview option lets you do all kinds of image correction and cropping very easily and intuitively before you do a final scan. All easy one-click type stuff that a beginner can figure out. Things you need to know though are (1) the slide holder is like a stencil that positions the slides on the tray in the right spot. You can't load slides into a separate slide holder and swap them to be quicker; (2) when scanning slides you need to place the shiny side of the slide downwards; (3) do not use colour correction when scanning slides; (4) and most importantly YOU HAVE TO RUN EPSON SCAN AS ADMINISTRATOR ON YOUR COMPUTER OR IT WILL CRASH CONSTANTLY. Google "Epson Scan unstable" and you will see what I mean. Running as administrator makes it work flawlessly; (5) when scanning film slides your film type is "Positive Film." I scan hard copy photos in 48-bit colour at 1200 dpi with unsharp mask and colour restoration on and they look great at about 9MB each file. Takes about 1.5 minutes to scan a photo.

So far I would definitely buy it again.

Easy to learn how to operate. Used for scanning B&W and colour 35mm negatives, as well as colour slides. The plastic frames to hold the film or slides fits nicely into locking ports on the side of the scanning plate. Scanning options are menu selected. Straighforward. Quality of the images is excellent. Naturally, higher resolution takes much longer to scan.

I am going through slides and negatives, 35mm and Medium format from my dad's past life starting from the 1960s. So it's A LOT. You will need A LOT of time on your hands and a very understanding family if you need to save all these memories that you have probably never ever seen before.

I am using a high end spec Alienware notebook from 2015 to do this. I have gone through the trouble to time how long it takes to scan 35mm slides in different settings.

    4 35mm Slides
    Scan for Positive
    4800dpi 48bit
    Color Correction
    w/ ICE: 10min 29sec
    w/ Medium Dust Removal: 5min 44sec
    w/o Dust Removal: 5min 41sec

Those Kodak slides from way back then will have dust in them if not growing on them. The Epson software dust removal is NOTHING. It's pretty much just like w/o dust removal. It's a worthless setting. Grain Reduction is noticeable but not by much. Color Restoration setting is like magic. Those old slides will have tinted to a magenta color by now, so you'll need that. Digital ICE Technology setting, now that makes a HUGE difference. Those dust specs disappear completely. I recommend this setting if you have the time. 60 slide magazine, 4 slides at a time, will take you 157.5minutes if you were a robot. 2hrs, 37.5min a magazine.

I purchased an 鶹 Recertified one of these and it works great! If you have an understanding family or a lot of spare time, I recommend this. If you don't then just get one of those $150 toys that you just push a slide in and press a button like a conveyor belt. Or pay someone or a company to scan them in for you.
