Dorcy Review plus Energizer Flashlight Comparison
I purchased both Dorcy and Energizer Waterproof Flashlights and this Review is for the Dorcy Flashlight. It also contains some information to compare it with the Energizer waterproof flashlight. I've broken my review down in two parts. Part 1 is short and focuses only on the Dorcy Flashlight. Part 2 is more detailed and compares the Dorcy with the Energizer *** PART 1: *** The Dorcy Waterproof Flashlight is lightweight, waterproof flashlight with three LEDs, reflector and carabiner clip. The price at the time of my review was $11. I have purchased three (3) of these Dorcy flashlights to date (one for my boat, one for my kayak and one for my quad). My oldest flashlight is three years old and still works. I would recommend this flashlight. *** PART 2 *** Here's how the Dorcy and Energizer waterproof flashlights compare. *** Waterproof *** First off both Dorcy and Energizer flashlights are waterproof. They float on the surface and work when submerged. *** Size & Weight *** Both flashlights are similar in size and shape although the Dorcy flashlight weights slightly more. *** Brightness LEDS *** The Dorcy Flashlight has 3 three LEDs while the Energizer has only one LED. The Dorcy flashlight is the clear winner here and is much brighter and illuminates much farther than the Energizer. *** Build Quality - Features *** The Built Quality of the Dorcy Flashlight is better. The Dorcy flashlight feels more substantial and solid when compare to the Energizer which feels lightweight and cheap. The on/off button on the energizer flashlight is harder to press than the energizer. The design and grip of the dorcy flashlight is better and it includes an integrated Spring Loaded Carabiner clip while the energizer has only a loop hook. The winner here again is the Dorcy. *** Price - Value *** At the time of my purchase the Energizer Flashlight was $8 while the Dorcy Flashlight was $12. At the time of my review the Energizer Flashlight is now $20 while the Dorcy is now only $11. At todays current price the Dorcy is a better value. ••• Conclusion ••• Both flashlights are waterproof, float and work well when submerged in water. At $11 the Dorcy Flashlight is not only Brighter, Stronger, More Durable and has a carabiner clip but it's $9 dollars cheaper than the current price of the Energizer. This makes the Dorcy flashlight a better value and all things considered the one I would recommend and buy again. here is the link to the energizer flashlight on amazon /gp/product/B007CMSUA6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is a great flashlight as it is nice and bright for those hard to see spots.
  • Reviewed in Canada on May 27, 2016

I keep this flashlight in my room as a back up, I have tactical flashlights that are much brighter and more reliable. This has 55 lumens which is decent for the price, on three AA-cells (included) it has a run time of (8 hours and 45 minutes).

It feels good in the hand as it has a comfortable rubber grip, it weights 167 grams with the three AA-cells installed. There is also a Crabineer clip for some type of hands free use, perhaps hanging it someplace you need light.

On the packaging it has icons for ANSI / NEMA FL1 Standard, adopted by many if not all manufacturer's of electronics of a certain type. In flashlights, features like lumens, impact resistance, water resistance, etc., are covered as part of FL1 Standard. The manufacturer's test the products themselves and make the claims, it's presumed the claims are accurate and true.

Water protection uses the "Ingress Protection" or "IP" ratings, which states what level of protection from water, dust, debris, etc., a product can withstand and still function after the fact. This flashlight is IPX4, identified by the raining icon on the packaging. This means it's water resistant and can handle splashes of water at different angles.

It's misleading because the description states that it's waterproof. Waterproof and water resistance are not the same, therefore they are not rated with the same level of protection.

On the manufacturer's page there is a photo of this floating on water, probably advertising that it can just sit in water without any damage. I'm just pointing this out, but I'm not certain as to how FL1 Standard works.

Overall, these are good for the price, I would buy more if needed, but only if there isn't anything else better in this range. At the end of day, some water protection is better then none, at this price I don't really expect it to be anyways. The description though should be more accurate.

Thank you for reading my review.

I bought three of these for my family. I like the fact that they are small, but not so small that they are constantly slipping out of your hand like a few others I have. I use mine all the time. I use it indoors when I clean or paint and of course at night when it's time to put the animals to bed. If I drop it, it is so easy to find and of course it's nice to know it floats. I have several flashlights that roll onto the floor whenever I put them down on something and I cringe every time they hit the floor. This one doesn't do that. The only problem I have is putting it down using the light end as a base and forgetting to turn it off because I don't see the light. Can't blame the flashlight for that. I have flashlights that cost hundreds of dollars and use special batteries, but this one that uses regular batteries is the one I reach for the most. A great little flashlight at a great price.

Best flashlight ever!! You know we went camping for 9 weeks in the woods with 3 kids! We were in rustic areas where there is no lights. This flashlight is amazing. It lights really strongly and we can see really well. We hang it from the carabineer clip and it floods the tent. Awsome. We were able to cook late evenings. Walk to the bathroom on mini trails. Just fantastic. I dont regret it. The battery life is just awsome. In 9 weeks we changed 1 set for 1 flashlight!!! We had 4! The batteries are just AA so really cheap. Just true amazing. And with 3 kids it got dropped a bunch. Never broke. My hours of reading reviews payed off. Im sooo happy with this.

A neat and solid feeling product, far better than most in its price range. The quality fits the Dorcy reputation, so it wasn't a surprise. It is fairly bright for a torch of its size and feels strong with no flexing in my grip as it is held. I like the fact that it takes AA batteries rather than the tiny AAA batteries, because alkaline cells of the AA type contain about three times the energy of AAA cells but cost about the same amount, making the AA cells far better value.

The only downside is the strange spread of light with coloured fringes in, a bit distracting until you get used to it. It is a minor disadvantage that really doesn't bother me, you will have to decide for yourself it that is the case for you.

And yes, it floats, even with batteries in, because I dropped it in the bathroom washbasin to test it. No ill effects at all.

    Definitely recommended.
