Customer reviews
Customers say
Customers like the capacity, performance, and ease of use of the pump sprayer. They mention it holds a lot more liquid and is the right size to spray all of their fruit trees. Some also say it's easy to use than a shoulder strap sprayer and the spray nozzle adjusts for various patterns. However, some customers have reported that the pump doesn't build pressure during second use and the piston fills with water so it won't maintain pressure. Opinions are mixed on the quality.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 18, 2025Verified PurchaseFor several years I used a standard pump sprayer. The kind you would have to put down and continually pump.
It would take more than an hour to spray my tomatoes with a mixture of neem oil and soap in order to prevent any kind of disease from infecting them.
I did some research and found this backpack type pump that, first of all, holds a lot more liquid, and secondly, allows you to pump as you're spraying.
This is going to save me an incredible amount of time this summer.
I'm so happy I found this product!
I highly recommend it to anyone who is using a standard pump sprayer.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 24, 2025Verified PurchaseHappy with product. This is the second one I have bought and will continue to do so as needed
- Reviewed in Canada on November 1, 2023Verified PurchaseVery uncomfortable to carry.
Backpack strap broke during send use.
Pump also did not build pressure during second use (seals are not chemical resistant at all)
Chapin did not make any of these issues right, have to return it through 鶹.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 8, 2025Verified PurchaseIt's tough to get it on the truck bed the right way on your own cause it's heavy and comes rolled up, so even after 2 days warm weather it still is not completely flat, but it is getting there
- Reviewed in Canada on July 21, 2024Verified PurchaseI like it! I have not fully used it for what I intended to use it for. However, I did trialled using it with just water to see how it work. It worked really well. I only partially filled the tank to two gallons only to see how heavy the equipment will be when I carry it on my back. It seems to work well for me and will definitely use it for spraying the weeds later on.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 21, 2024Verified PurchaseUsed this all summer for weed suppression and liquid feeding without any issues. It certainly can get heavy over a long time of use, but that's nothing against the product itself. Worked great every time and I am very happy with it.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 8, 2024Verified PurchaseThe unit is just the right size for my acre property. The pump mechanism is smooth and doesn’t take many cycles to pressurize the tank.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 7, 2025Verified PurchaseGood sprayer but shoulder straps leave a lot to be desired. Not a lot of padding and dig into you pretty good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Likely to stop working after being stored during winter
Verified PurchaseMaybe you've heard the tale of the diner who was told she could get the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe for "two-fifty" and discovered when the credit card bill arrived that it was not $2.50, but $250. She dealt with her frustration and feelings of being mislead by sharing the recipe with as many people as possible. That's exactly why I am writing this review. I can't return this sprayer since the return window is well closed, but I can warn others to avoid it.
As for my experience with the sprayer, I used it three times last summer, half filled each time. I cleaned it thoroughly and sprayed clean water through it for several minutes each time; plus, I stored it in an interior garage closet where it wouldn't be exposed to heat or cold extremes.
Last month, I used it successfully, then again this past week...until I heard a popping sound and the pumping bar stopped creating pressure. The manual Indicated three possible problems, all with the pump. I followed directions to take the pump out and apart. Nothing was dirty so that eliminated one possibility and nothing looked worn or damaged which eliminated the other two. The pictures in the manual of the pump parts/construction left much to be desired, so I called customer service troubleshooting line.
The agent told me she could not walk me through determining the problem because she could not see my pump. She then said the problem was likely what she most often encounters--a snapped ring or collar. She explained these elements often dry out and become brittle when stored for the winter. Her suggestion was to purchase a pump replacement kit since the problem was probably with the pump. It took a transfer to find out thecost of the kit (with shipping) was about two-thirds of the cost of just buying this sprayer again.
I decided that buying this sprayer again was foolish, not only because of my experience but because of the answers to the last two questions I asked the troubleshooting agent. Would this problem likely repeat after the sprayer had been stored for winter? (Answer--quite possibly.) Was the company addressing this problem--since she said it came up frequently and had been brought to the attention of CS supervisors-- like using a more resilient rubber or providing extras rings/collars with the pumps?(Answer--not that she knew of.)
When I purchased this sprayer, there weren't that many reviews and they were mostly positive. Today, I see plenty of critical reviews that sadly were not available back then. I can't get my money back; but there is some satisfaction in adding yet another negative review thatcan be of value in guiding others to keep searching for a sprayer that will be an investment rather than a trip to the landfill.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first impressions
Verified PurchaseChapin makes a number of sprayers, and I am never quite quire whether 鶹 has mixed them up. This is for the Chapin 60114. I tested this with a gallon of water and got nearly 20 seconds of uninterrupted spray per pumping although it was pretty weak at the end. If your sprayer is only getting four seconds of spray it is either defective or the seals are defective and should be returned. This sprayer has gotten some very good reviews, but I am at the outset less enthusiastic. The wand was preassembled, but getting the cotter pin in the holes for the lever for a 79 year old man with arthritis in his hands was no joke. Even with the aid of pliers and a battery operated headlamp. Even less of a joke was snapping the hooks for the backstraps onto the rails. Tip: I found it easier to snap them onto the bars parallel to the sides and moving them once snapped to their proper location. Easier. Not easy. I do not expect to ever fill this up with four gallons of liquid. I had a two gallon sprayer that I carried in my left hand. And unexpectedly pulled the muscles in my right side. After two weeks, I can bend over and sleep in my own bed, but the first three nights I slept in a lift chair. So I'm hoping with this on my back I can still carry two gallons without doing injury to myself. I do see that some two gallon sprayers come with a shoulder strap. If this proves too cumbersome I will get one of those. Another observation. The hose attaches in the rear. Moving the sprayer around to the front before putting on the backpack makes retrieval a whole lot easier. A hex wrench comes with the package. I believe that would only be used if you were attempting to repair the unit. I expect to have lost it long before I'm tempted to do any do-it-yourself maintenance on the pump. In fact after today, I'm pretty sure it will be gone. I would not recommend this sprayer for anyone for whom hand strength or arthritis in his/her hands is an issue or who would find it physically difficult to pump the handle as frequently as would be required. The pumping handle is conveniently located, and it isn't difficult to use at first, but eventually over time pumping the pressure back up for every 15-20 seconds of spray will build up your muscles in the pumping arm.
