As for the folding. It’s held by a rope. A lever would have made it more solid.

These metal crutches are very well made. They are not heavy to handle and are very steady. To adjust the height, I just pushed in the steel buttons and was able to lengthened them in a second. I was a bit apprehensive about buying these, but I am glad I did. The only thing I didn't like was the part where you grab it with your hand. It was a bit difficult to adjust the height. The long stainless steel screw kept jamming into the rubber gasket, but I overcame that slight problem. In all, a good purchase. I have been on crutches five separate occasions in my life, all for six months or more. I have had a lot of experience with crutches and scooters. These crutches are convenient, the folding feature is what sets them apart. What I have found is that knee scooters are best, but don't work for all situations (stairs, rough terrain, getting in and out of cars). The need to have crutches on hand is important, and these crutches are easy to carry and store in a vehicle.
