When I read some of the reviews about this kit I wasn’t sure if I would be disappointed in the kit or not. But based on the good price and easy return policy if not satisfied I decided to take a chance. To my surprise I wasn't let down at all! The kit is great. I was worried that this would not be a solid set. However, the stands are good quality and easy to set up. Although not a “professional kit”, it is a perfectly good starter kit..
The backdrops are a little thin and you would not want to put them in front of a window, but I set up the backdrops in our living room with furniture behind it and it worked perfectly. The backdrops come folded with wrinkles as expected but I used my hand held steamer to smooth out the creases. I guess alternatively if you don’t have a hand steamer then using a hot iron to take out the wrinkles would work as well. Then I used the clamps that were included in the kit to stretch the cotton muslin backdrop tight on the side of the stand. (I set the width of the crossbar to 5 feet to facilitate the attachment of the backdrop to the side of the backdrop stand).
The kit comes with two 45 watt fluorescent bulbs and was not an issue with lighting up my small living room (I live in a 800 square foot condo). I could see in a large room that the two bulbs would not provide enough light. I set the lights 3-4 feet away from the backdrop and laid a sheer on top of the green muslin backdrop to create some effects. The images came out great! I was amazed at the light quality which was excellent.
I wanted an easy to use and portable lighting kit and this is a perfect light weight and cost effective kit. Overall a good value for the price kit. I think those giving this kit low ratings are being a little too harsh, after all what do you expect from a kit for $150?.
