I've been looking for an "affordable" 2.5Gb switch for some time with more than 5 ports that isn't some odd Chinese clone brand. The processor on this switch is a newer MaxLinear (US engineered) chip, which apparently is more efficient. than some of the other options on the market to date. So far I'm not seing any major heat coming off of the thing, so that's' a good sign. There's lots of ventillation holes. This 8port switch is small and compact. The casing is plastic but has mounting support (2 screws). The ports are very compact, so I'd recommend you don't have any bulky boots on your ethernet cables or it could be an issue getting all 8 ports connected at once.

I have two BrosTrend 8port (cheaper to buy 2 small 2.5Gb switches than a larger capacity one) connected to one another and so far, the performance has been great. I've seen transfer speeds up to 310MB/s sustained using simple file copies from Samba share. I'm sure iperf tests could get you near theoretical max speeds, but I'm not far off.

I’m in the process of upgrading my home network with Cat 7 cables and 2.5Gbps adapters on my computers and NAS so needed to swap out my old 1G switch, wow what a difference! Most of the time I’m just connecting to the internet (which is a 1Gig connection via Three, which I can’t recommend enough!).

Anyway this thing is brilliant, no bottle necks, full 1G to the internet and a noticeable difference connecting to my NAS, everything just worked seamlessly and so fast.
