Product description
Similar to the breville smart oven, but in a smaller, more compact design, this 1800-watt oven offers exceptional cooking convenience while taking up less space on the counter. The unit's 3/5-cubic-foot nonstick interior can accommodate a 12-inch pizza or four slices of bread at a time, while its push-button and turn-knob control panel makes it easy to program. Turn the control dial to select the function--options include toast, bagel, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, and reheat. The oven's element iq "smart" sensor technology puts the power where it's needed most to ensure energy-efficient operation. For each of the eight pre-set functions, element iq automatically adjusts the power and calculates the cooking time. The time and temperature for the pre-set programs can also be manually adjusted to accommodate individual preferences--the oven will even remember the new settings for next time. Use the second control dial for setting the time (from one minute up to two hours) and for adjusting the temperature (from 120 to 450 degrees f), as well as for selecting the number of slices and for setting the toast shade, from light to dark. The control panel also offers a large start/cancel button, a defrost button for frozen foods, and a temperature-conversion button for recipes with cooking temperatures in celsius. The oven's easy-to-read backlit lcd screen shows the current function, temperature, and adjustments made--plus it illuminates orange to indicate preheating and cooking, then blue to indicate the end of the cooking cycle. Other highlights include a tempered-glass door, three rack positions, and a front-access removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. Accessories include a 10-by-10-inch enamel baking pan and a 10-by-10-inch enamel broil rack. Attractively housed in coated steel with a strikingly modern design, the countertop oven measures 16-1/2 by 14-1/4 by 10 inches.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 13, 2024Verified PurchaseMy mom had this exact model of toaster and it finally gave up working after YEARS of daily toasting and weekly meal making in it. She's in her late 70's and finds learning new gadget operation cumbersome, so I didn't even hesitate to buy her a new one. Totally happy with the price and the delivery. It's a great little unit!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 28, 2014Verified PurchaseI've been debating over which brand and model of Toaster Oven to purchase for quite some time and I settled on the Breville Compact which I am totally pleased with, for various reasons.
- I don't have a lot of counter space and I liked the idea of the cutting board which fits very nicely on the top.
- I liked the look and colour of it and it seems at home under the corner cabinet in my kitchen which enables me to pull it forward when in use.
- I wanted one that I can increase the cooking time for, if needed, without having to wait to the minutes to run out.
- The settings are simple to operate and the front pull-out crumb tray is convenient to empty.
- it makes great toast.
As far as the temperature, I've used it almost every day and have cooked several casseroles, impossible pies, fries and baked potatoes and made broiled sandwiches and so far, unlike others I notice absolutely nothing untoward....infact it roasts or bakes far quicker than my oven especially considering that it preheats in a matter of a couple minutes. If a recipe tells me to bake something for 25 minutes and my Breville does so in 25 minutes, then what the actual temp reading is for the entire period of that 25 minutes is not an issue to me.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 10, 2025Verified PurchaseI've owned this toaster oven for 7 years and never had any issues with it. The heat isn't super even anymore but otherwise I love it. It's also easy to clean and still looks good.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 30, 2023Verified PurchaseThis is our 2nd purchase of this model. The dimensions are perfect for a small home with limited counter top space. Our last one lasted about 8 years with very regular use including roasting small chickens. Ultimately, some of the settings stopped working but even then we used other ones to compensate. Gave 4 stars for ease to clean because stainless steel is never easy to clean really. Great product! Hope they don't discontinue this one. We own several Breville products and they all seem to be of this quality.

- Reviewed in Canada on November 26, 2015Verified PurchaseI have been using this toaster oven daily since I bought it. It can do almost anything: bagels, quiches, bread pudding, banana bread, chicken legs, pies, pizza, I could go on! Funnily enough, the thing it doesn't do perfectly is toast! It's great on top but doesn't toast quite as well on the bottom, but that doesn't bother me a bit. It's so easy to clean with all non-stick surfaces. The controls are all so intuitive that I've never even opened the manual. I use it more than I use my oven and it can do almost anything my oven can do. It's only limited by size, so while it can't cook a big turkey, it can do meals for one and two people with ease. I raved about it so much my sister bought one. It's a winner!
- Reviewed in Canada on February 16, 2019Verified PurchaseI LOVE this oven! It heats up and cooks SO fast, it must be saving a ton of money. Pizza is bubbling on top and the bottom is brown and crisp;
toast is done exactly the way you want it and if not , adjusting timing or temp. is easy.
I have it placed at eye level which negates all the bending down necessary with my large oven.
A neighbour viewed my use of it and immediately ordered one for herself.
For those mostly cooking for one, it’s a huge saving.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2016Verified PurchasePurchased this toaster when I moved to my first place. Fits perfectly when counterpace is a concern - otherwise I would have purchased the bigger brother. Have used it primary to bake/toast things, and it does the job well. I know that some reviewers (on amazon.com, for example) have actually tested temperature on these units and had some issues with consistent performance. While this may be true, I haven't noticed much difference between results when cooking the same foods. It gets the job done, it looks pretty nice, but when you get cheese or something on the elements, it can be tough to clean. Because of oil stains from the stove, I have to use a stainless steel cleaner to give it a nice smooth finish. The tray which slides out for easy cleaning is convenient, but has sharp edges.
I haven't really experimented with every cooking setting, except for bake, broil and toast. I can say that those work well and if you've used breville in the past this is consistent with their other products. Overall, I'm happy. I just wish they'd sell their products for less in Canada!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect forreplacing full size oven when it's only 1 or 2 people

- JustitiaReviewed in the United States on August 7, 2011
5.0 out of 5 stars Just great -- so well designed -- well except for a few unacceptable hot spots...
Verified PurchaseI've been really reluctant to update my kitchen electronics because I love what I have so much. But age comes with time. I am reviewing here the toaster broiler oven but as background I just want to say: My 25 year old microwave finally gave out and I replaced it with the current version of that model despite the fact that all the reviews suggest that these microwaves give out after a couple of years -- no more couple of decades of use as when they first appeared on the scene.
But I was so happy with how the features had improved over the last 25 years -- that just about everything I found irritating about my original microwave had been addressed and many things improved upon that I just been so pleased with having the new one.
So my toaster broiler oven is also showing its age. It still works just fine but the paint is chipping, and it has some design flaws. We needed a 2nd one for a 2nd location so I figured it was time to move my current one to the second location and gamble on a new one. My positive experience with the microwave made me much more willing to do so.
The Breville does not disappoint, it heats, cooks, broils, toasts everything so much better than my old one. The feature of the bamboo tray on top (purchased separately) is wonderful. Having the oven "pre-heat" to the desired temperature before sticking something in is also wonderful (Though I have not tested whether it does indeed get to the temperature it states. I am just starting to branch out from toast and broiling or simple cooking on the bake feature, like fish -- nothing as sophisticated as bread or pizza yet.)
Everything of the limited range I do comes out sooo much better than with my old one. and the subtleties and variations of temperature and style of heating and having a time to set for cooking, etc. is wonderful.
But 2 things I find problematic -- the unexpected hot spots -- you can indeed burn yourself is you touch certain parts -- and which parts they are is unexpected -- a corner here, a certain point there. I don't understand -- with all the cleverness and care of the design of features -- how hard could it be to put a little insulating or material that doesn't get so burning hot on the outside?
The other issue is that it seems that the oven stays in "standby" mode all the time and you need to unplug it after use. Maybe someone can correct me, but I don't see a clock and the LCD screen stays lit with the temperature of the type of cooking on display 24 hours. That I find annoying but fortunately they have cleverly designed the plug with a hole so it is easy to pull out (see some of the pictures of the item to see what I mean.) Maybe that is safer anyway.
SO despite these drawbacks -- even the serious one of somewhat dangerous hot spots -- the features are so wonderful, that I still give it 5 stars.
However, if there would be children around or an aging parent, I would not keep it because of the hot spot potential to burn oneself.
UPDATE: It's been about 2 months -- and I am even more in love with the Breville now. I appreciate a number of its features that were new to me -- the reheat option (as opposed to bake), the toasting is great. It took a while to get used to how slow everything is -- how long it takes to preheat to the desired temparature, how slowly even broiling takes. But it is worth developing the patience. Everything tastes so much more delicious properly cooked in this slower manner.
And I was wrong about the LCD display light not going out; it does eventually. I am not sure how long because I haven't yet noticed when it happens. But I no longer pull out the plug to stop the light.
