Bosch GSS20-40 Orbital Finishing Sander (1/4-Sheet)

The Bosch GSS20-40 1/4-Sheet Orbital Finishing Sander delivers even sanding and long tool life, with a precision-machined aluminum sanding plate. It has a beefy 2.0 Amp motor that produces up to 12,000 oscillations per minute (OPM), delivering uniform and smooth results on all surfaces.

This tool incorporates low-vibration engineering for user comfort and for enhanced tool life. It features the traditional sanding sheet clamp design, for dependable grip of one or more sanding sheets (it also accepts stick-on paper). Ideal for finish carpenters and other pro users, the GSS20-40 features through-the-pad dust collection and a microfilter dust canister with screw-off cap.

An integrated paper filter in the canister traps particles as small as 1/2 micron. The sander offers flush sanding, so the user can sand along the edges of vertical surfaces on three sides, for uniform sanding throughout the workpiece. The tool also provides an ergonomic soft-grip top for control and user comfort.

This sander is very handy for finishing as it uses standard sheets of sandpaper that the included press pops the dust collection holes in. I just cut up a stack of paper in advance of the grits I need and when changing over, pop in the dust collection holes and right back at it.

Vibration feed back to the user is good and stays comfortable to use for an extended period. Like my other Bosch tools, I look forward to using them as they allow me to build and finish far above what I was able to do prior. I think the fact they work so well makes you eager to do the best work you can as you do not get worn down my the frustration some other brands deliver.

I do wear hearing protection although it is not overly loud, it does buzz along with enough noise that hearing protection is not a bad idea.

As typical with all the other Bosch tools I own, this is a very nicely built quality tool that I expect will last me a long time.

What a little beauty. I use to buy only Makita until they went down in quality and started burning out. Very happy with all my Bosch tools. This is my second Bosch sander. A big reason I chose this sander is because it takes quarter sheets which means much cheaper and a much wider range of grits. Secondly as the pictures show this sander has a cast, machined aluminum base plate, a sign of quality. Other brands in this and higher price points have either all plastic or plastic with a thin sheet of aluminum for a base. I don't know how they do it but the vibration isolation really does work. Nice design, feels good in the hand. I also like the hole punch accessory. Now if people will only stop stealing my tools. :)

Just what I needed. A sander that uses regular 11" x 9" sandpaper. No pricey pre-shaped consumables to buy.

The sheets are held in securely with spring clips. The dust port connects to my smaller shop-vac. Really handy. Recommended.

I would give 5 stars, but the off/off switch is kind of small and the rubber dust cover for the switch makes it hard to use. I would like to see a power switch that folks with bigger hands can use easily.
