Just received this yesterday so this is review is based on that, however I will update if my opinion changes.
Although I'm a tech zealot, but when it comes to watches, this crosses another area that I'm passionate about, mechanical watches. Thus, I've been reluctant of getting a pricey smartwatch as I'm not sure if I will use it for the long term. For me, a watch should tick, not beep.
As I get older, things such things that these watches monitor are of interest. Also being concerned about not getting enough physical activity, it made sense to dip my toe into the smartwatch world.
Primary criteria was heart rate, spo2, blood pressure, sleep tracking and steps. Other appreciated features are weather (typical eastern Canadian), alarms (although it seems to only vibrate, no tone yet), music control, message display (no reply) and stress monitoring. There's other things like calls / blue tooth integration, all typical of these watches.
The app is Da Fit which seems, other than no ability I can find to export data (as I'm a data collection junky so I graph things in other applications). However, the app is reasonably well behaved regardless. There's a section in the app page which instructs one to ensure the app doesn't get backgrounded, however I kept noticing 0's showing in the heart rate graphs. Initially I thought it was the watch but noticed the 0 values were precise, pointing more to the app than the phone (during the night this did not happen). The apps instructions was two steps, the second one I couldn't engage it based on the instructions. I've since found another way to "lock" the app so that the "close all" feature doesn't take it out, nor the feature in the OS that does this automatically (this is / was the cause of the 0 reports it seems). I just set this an hour ago and so far.... so good. I included my steps below in the summary that may hopefully help others.
Build seems solid, the strap is comfortable but is a little tricky tucking the tail in behind the strap through the loop. This isn't a fault of the strap so much as my wrists are tiny, so there's a lot of strap to feed in. Being a watch enthusiast, this setup, once I finally struggle to get it tucked in, is a really nice setup with no strap tail flopping about.
Battery so far has been good, again it's only been a day but it's holding up well.
Screen is responsive and looks good, not the highest resolution out there but in my opinion it punches well beyond it's price point, it's clear and bright.
In summary (and tips to make the app work better):
It does what I wanted it for and more. For those connecting to Android, ensure you disable the backgrounding of the app in the settings (go into settings -> Apps -> Da Fit -> Battery -> change to Unrestricted), and the second step is to lock the app open. This is where the app instructions didn't work for my device. What did work was opening the Da Fit App, tap the ||| at the bottom of the screen to bring up all running apps, tap the icon of Da Fit at the top of the display where the "close all apps" is at the lower part. This should bring up a menu, here is where one sets the "keep open" option, which puts a lock icon on the app when displayed. This will prevent the "close all apps" and the OS from cleaning out the app. Do these steps and things will work as intended (no more 0's in my heart rate graph). Hope this helps anyone with a
Bonus point: After placing the order the vendor sent an email explaining how to contact them for support, a proactive approach to support, which appears promising.
