I’ll try to keep this brief. Got the Dyson ball vac. It’s Dyson, right? What could be better? Well, this Bissell is better!

The Dyson is IMPOSSIBLE to pull across carpet, even low pile carpet. So… I dragged the Dyson over my shag area rug section by section and got a workout I really didn’t need or want. It was frustrating and exhausting. There is no way I want to struggle like that every time I do housework.

Just ran the Bissell over the same shag rug (and my cat has been staying at my daughter’s so there should be very little to pull up after the Dyson episode) and LOOK! I was momentarily worried it was going to be a problem to push as well, but it turns out it was just a learning curve and not the vacuum trying to permanently affix itself to the rug via overly intense suction.

Super easy and effective on low pile carpet and bare floors. Super long cord is really nice to have and the auto rewind is a fantastic bonus. Very happy and highly recommend!

We have had Dyson's for many years, and wanted to try this Bissell to compare.... we could not get over how much more cat hair the new Bissell picked up, even after passing the Dyson before it!! Money wise, get the Bissell instead of the Dyson!! .... and yes, we cleaned filters etc on the Dyson's... maybe they didn't work as well as we've had them quite a few years, but we are totally impressed with the Bissell!!! When we need another vacuum, it will be a Bissell!!

The vacuum itself is awesome .. the suction power is unparallel. I had another Bissel from back in 2018, which itself is pretty good. After vacuuming the carpet with that one, i used the new one - and i still could see significant dirt captured in the cannister.

What buffled me is : the fault design. In earlier Bissel, you would have the ON-OFF button on the handle. So you hold and using the same hand, you could turn it on and Off. But this one :: the On-Off button is on the bottom. You need to now use your foot to do it - requiring you to use additional limbs as opposed to having everything on hand reach.

Next Fault is : the cable hole location. In earlier models, you would roll out / in the cable from back side. So as you are vacuuming and walking, you could just pull with your hand (and sometimes, no pull was needed, as you walk, the stretch on the cable would pull cables out automatically). But this one has cable hole on the SIDE. it is VERY inconvenient to pull cable out as you are vacuuming and walking.

Poeple improve things for the better. Keep what's working good as it is and make it better. Not change a perfect design just to 'give a new flavor' for no reason ..

Easy to put together and I just went over the living room (that was done 2 days before)....the canister had so much dirt in it I was shocked. While I at first went "ewwww", I then thought well it's clean now LOL. Obviously really good on carpets getting out all the dust and crap left over from my old vacuum. This vacuum cleaner is literally a hot mess that sucks bad. It might as well be made of cardboard because it disintegrated on its first use. It only works for dusting flat floor mats with minimal hair, despite the description.

I chose it because of its spinning brush feature, which is marketed as the best economy-priced option for cleaning high pile shag rugs. However, after vacuuming my rug, I noticed the smell of burning plastic, and that the spinning brush was not spinning.

This is such a common defect that there is a page devoted to it in the short instruction booklet. To make matters worse, it says there to remove 5 screws when there are clearly 6, so anyone faithfully following the incorrect instructions Bissel wrote for their own product will break it too.

I opened the bottom and found that the spinning brush had melted all over the inside of its casing and motor. I'm guessing that the brush got stuck on some hair, but the rubber motor belt kept spinning around it and the friction heated it to the point of burning.

To Bissel's credit, hundreds of negative reviews scattered in various places say the belt frequently snaps, so a lengthy warranty belt replacement process is inevitable for many customers. Maybe they reinforced it, because in my case it stayed in tact and destroyed the rest of the vacuum instead.

Some of the "dust" in the chamber turned out to be plastic specks that came off the charred brush roll. I can't think of a funnier scam than this vacuum digesting itself to fill its tank to create the illusion of cleaning.

If you want a disposable single-use vacuum that will chew up and swallow itself, then possibly light your house on fire to take you down with it, then you can't get better than Bissel!

I have had this vacuum for 2.5 years now, so I think that's a pretty good amount of time to know what's good and bad about it. My previous vacuum was a Dyson Ball Animal, which I had for five or six years, so that's what I'm comparing it to. Overall the Bissell is a good vacuum, mainly because the suction power is amazing. Even when my Dyson was new it didn't have the suction power that the Bissell does, and for the last few years before it died I was having to use one of those scraper tools to pull all the cat hair up out of our rugs first before vacuuming, which was very labor intensive. We currently have 13 cats in the house, so it's extremely important for us to have a reliable vacuum that works very well and can handle all the cat hair. The Bissell can do that!

So here are the main things I like about this vacuum: it has absolutely no trouble pulling ALL the cat hair out of the rugs, and of course hardwood/tile floors are no problem. The little side bristles help to pull in dirt and hair next to baseboards, which is also really helpful. It's very lightweight and swivels on a dime, so it's easy to handle. The tank is large and very easy to empty, and even when hair gets stuck up around the filter, it's big enough to reach into. That was a problem with the Dyson, because hair would get stuck up near the top but it was almost too small to reach into so I'd have to use a hangar to get everything out. I also like that the cord retracts, and there's a little thing near the top of the handle that you can clip the cord into to help keep it out of the way. Changing the belt is fairly easy - but I'll get into that later.

The things I don't like as much: The hose works fine and some of the tools are good, like the one with the brush on it, but it could be improved. This is one area where the Dyson was much better - the hose was longer and had a sort of handle, and everything was better quality. The Bissell tools are cheap and don't work as well, especially the "triple action brush roll" that's supposed to pick up cat hair. I have tried and tried to figure out how to make that thing work and it just doesn't. That is probably the biggest disappointment with the Bissell - I absolutely need an attachment that picks up cat hair to vacuum the couch, chairs, and everything else that gets covered in hair. The Dyson has an attachment like that with little rotating heads that works incredibly well. Fortunately, it fits on the Bissell hose! If you have pets I highly recommend buying that attachment by itself to use with the Bissell. It's the Tangle-Free Turbine Tool that goes with the Dyson Animal DC40 upright vacuum. I also still use the "articulating hard floor tool" that came with the Dyson, because the Bissell doesn't have anything like that and it fits on the Bissell hose. The Bissell corner tool may be useful if you have carpeted stairs but I don't have stairs and have never found a use for it.

The Bissell is bigger than the Dyson and doesn't fit under things as well. Also, when using the hose you have to be very careful not to pull too much or the whole vacuum will fall over because it's so lightweight. I have learned that you have to hold onto it or lay it down to use the hose. Also, over time it has gotten louder; I'm not sure why.

Those things are all minor annoyances. The main negative is the same thing many other people have mentioned - the belt breaks too easily. I'd had it less than two months when the belt broke, because I had the vacuum sitting on the edge of a rug that had fringe. While I was busy vacuuming under something with the hose, it somehow sucked the fringe up and I guess it got clogged and that snapped the belt. I was prepared for that because of other reviews, so I ordered more belts from Bissell and they arrived pretty quickly.

In the directions it tells you to remove the screws from the plate on the bottom, but there is one more than it says there are. After a few minutes I figured out how to get the belt in the right place and around the roller, put everything back together, turned it on, and there was immediately a horrible noise and I swear flames came out of the vacuum before I could get it turned off. I took the bottom plate off again and not only was the new belt broken but the roller was also broken. I'm not sure what happened because I followed the directions. I contacted Bissell support and told them what happened, and it took them a couple of days to respond, but when they did they said those things aren't usually covered by the warranty but that they would send me a new roller and belt free of charge! They arrived pretty quickly. The roller was a different color than the original, but I wasn't going to gripe about a free replacement. This time after I reinstalled everything it worked perfectly.

Since then it has worked great, and no more broken belts! I have learned to be somewhat careful with it. If you buy this vacuum be aware that the suction is so good it will suck up small rugs (like bath mats), and don't roll over small cords or anything loose that could get tangled up in the roller. I never worried about that with the Dyson because even if something did get sucked up I could just pull it out. The Bissell is not as sturdy but will EAT things if you're not careful.

Bottom line - even with the minor annoyances I would buy this vacuum again in a heartbeat just for the suction alone, but the price definitely helps.

Absolutely love this vaccum so far. Wonderful value for the price point. My living room carpet was absolutely littered with the fluff from those worm on a string cat teaser toys and I was so worried that it would be difficult to get up, this absolutely obliterated the mess on my carpet. I had to empty the canister twice within two minutes of use. It was. Disgusting. Clearly the carpet needed it!

It isnt a very heavy unit, so it's great for folks who need that manuverability. It's a swivel style vaccum, so it can get in some hard to reach places. The brush roll is absolutely amazing. It's a triple action brush roll. There are several options to adjust the height so you can use it on hardwood and on carpet.

The cord rewind feature is actually probably the best thing I've ever invested in regarding vaccums. I have chronic pain that makes small things like that so much harder to manage. It's such an awesome feature. Overall. This vaccum is a wonderful value for the price point and it is everything you need. It comes with three different attachments as well.

A vacuum that does great on picking up pet hair and easy to clean. I do wish they had an attachment to make using the hose in the floor easier to reach. The tube attachments are short, so I have to lean over to clean corners or specific areas that are low or floor level. But otherwise, it's easy to maneuver around corners. I recommend adjusting the floor pile nozzle as needed dependi the height of your carpet. We didn't and ended up having to replace the belt. Which was easy to do. But now we now.
