- Reviewed in Canada on November 19, 2022Verified PurchaseMy primary need was to connect a motion sensor to my sump pump discharge pipe do I could trend how often the pump was running from season to season. Really pleased with it, and the basic features of the E1 hub were just what I needed.
I have a Google WiFi home network with 2 AP's. Google WiFi supports dual band 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands and each broadcasts the same network SSID, however to setup 2.4 GHz IoT devices using a mobile device can be problematic. This is because with Google Wi-Fi there is no option to temporarily disable the 5 GHz band and your mobile phone will always connect to the 5 GHz band if it can.
If you can get your mobile phone to connect to your 2.4 GHz band on your home router, than you are good to go, and you can stop reading. I've read some people had success by powering off AP's and going to a part of the house with poor wi-fi coverage and cycling the wifi on their mobile to fall back to 2.4 GHz. Did not work for me.
If you cannot temporarily disable the 5 GHz band on your router, the steps below should work for you too, but not necessarily for the faint of heart.
Work around, IF you have a 2nd mobile device handy, with carrier network and Hot Spot capability:
1. Download and install the Aqara Home app on your mobile device. (Mobile #1)
2. Temporarily power off the Google WiFi router and any Access Points (AP's)
3. Turn off some of the wi-fi devices in the house that may be heavy Internet devices, such as TV's, video games, streaming devices, desktop and notebook computers. When you enable the Hot Spot on the 2nd mobile phone (next step), any active wi-fi devices will connect to that Hot Spot phone as well. They will consume your mobile data and impact your Hot Spot performance.
4. On a 2nd mobile phone (Mobile #2) with carrier service, setup the HOT SPOT with the exact same SSID and password as your home network. When you enable Hot Spot on a mobile phone, it broadcasts on 2.4 GHz band, which is what is needed to configure the Aqara hub.
5. Enable the Hot Spot on Mobile #2.
6. Ensure Mobile #1 connects to the Hot Spot network. Likely will connect automatically.
7. On Mobile #1 proceed to setup the Aqara Hub device as per instructions in the app.
8. Once all done, turn off the Hot Spot on Mobile #2 and rename the Hot Spot name (SSID) to something other than your home network. Just so you don't create a network SSID conflict if the Hot Spot is turned on in the future.
9. Power on the main Google WiFi router and any AP's
10. Power back on any devices that were disconnected in step 2 above.
The Aqara hub and all home devices should now be connected to the main home network as expected. You may need to power cycle some devices to get them to reconnect to the home network. You can now install and setup any IoT sensors to your Aqara hub.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 12, 2025Verified PurchaseEasy to install and connect to a door lock.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 30, 2022Verified PurchaseAll in all, a nice product. Easy to connect to HomeKit via QR. However you have to download the manufacturer app and create the account to upload firmware updates to the device. Otherwise you may spend a fruitless evening (like I did) trying and failing to connect the accessories.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 20, 2022Verified PurchaseBought this Aqara hub to install my first Aqara door and window sensor on a storage room door to create an automation for the light to automatically turn on and off as the door is opened or closed.
Set up took seconds and has been working like a charm for over a week now.
Also recently added an Aqara temperature sensor on this hub.
Will likely buy a few more of these to spread around for installing more sensors throughout the house.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 10, 2025Verified PurchaseThis product is advertised as a zigbee repeater, however there is no way to set it up to act as one. I asked support about this and was told it is a hub and not a repeater. It is clearly advertised as a repeater, I find this to be very dishonest and useless and it is going back.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 21, 2024Verified PurchaseDid not have any problems with the product. Easy to set up. Great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless Setup on Deco Mesh via Android 15 (Feb 2025), 100+ft of Range
Verified PurchaseI have three Deco X55s running a dual-band mesh, so to install this Aqara Hub I told the Deco app to put my phone onto the 2.4GHz during setup since this inexpensive hub does not have a 5GHz radio (and why would it need one... it would just increase cost and reduce range). Then I downloaded the Aqara app and paired as normal.
Once the Aqara Hub was connected to my WiFi, I used the Deco app to set the hub's connection preference to 2.4GHz, on the closest Deco satellite, and disable "mesh technology" since other reviews said it wouldn't work with a mesh (and the hub won't be moving around anyway).
It has only been a couple of days, but the hub has worked flawlessly with Aqara's "wireless mini switch" (a little wireless button) tested outdoors up to 100' from the hub.
I bought the Aqara Hub and button to control a group of Ring "smart lights" in our back yard since Ring requires you to use a slow, buggy app to turn on lights, or it relies on motion detectors which don't always see our dog. I was reluctant to add yet another hub to our home just to fill the gap in Ring's functionality, but aside from turning the lights on, being able to turn them off means saving batteries and reducing recharge time.
By installing the Alexa App, then the Aqara Home "skill" and setting a "routine", I can now turn on the Ring smart light group in my back yard with a real life physical button at the door instead of "get phone->unlock screen->nav to app shortcut->enter lighting screen->wait for lights to load->turn on lights". Voice commands would probably have worked work from the Alexa app, but I refuse to live in a world where I run around yelling at apps and hubs while people try to work, sleep, and listen to music/tv/games/conversations.
This is one of the least expensive hubs we have (especially compared to Ring and Hue, though the X-Sense and Diivoo hubs we have came in kits and could be considered less expensive), plus it's very small and does not need a mount as long as you have an extra USB adapter. It solved my problem, set up quickly, installed even faster, has great range, and was (relatively) inexpensive. I'm sure their other hubs have more features, but I don't need them and I'm glad Aqara has this base model smart hub!

5.0 out of 5 stars Très pratique

3.0 out of 5 stars Read before iPhone set up
Verified PurchaseIn the end - it worked!
Yet was very unnerving to set up on iPhone.
Tip: when you set it up for the first time, to anvoid time out errors, always accept the name suggested by the system and hit enter quickly.
Only after I did that, I was able to set it up, and then renamed at a later stage.
