First of all, I would like to highlight that the reviews here are comingled with reviews for the less powerful 400 Watt model (which is roughly half as powerful as this model) - This review is for the more powerful model. I purchased this pump long before I had to use it. The hot tub salesman suggested a submersible pump was much more efficient than the gravity drain that came with the tub. It was also more convenient because my access to the tub's gravity drain was partially obstructed by its placement. I wanted as much power as possible to enable draining out to the street sewer which is approximately 100 feet from the tub. (My wife would been horrified if I tried to drain the chemically laden spa water into the yard or garden!) The pump works well. The 16 foot cord was sufficient to reach my electrical code installed outlet without the need for an extension cord. I notice that it takes a few seconds for the pump to "prime" itself, but after that, the volume flowed. It drained my 400 (US) gallon tub in a little over an hour . The hose run was long (100 feet) and there was about 4 feet of elevation from where the pump was placed over the entire run of the hose. Connection to my 3/4 inch garden hose was simple with the adapter included. The only negative is that the base is approximately 1" high so the pump will not remove that last 1" of water. The instructions that came with it were not great because there were no pictures or diagrams and the language suggested that they were written by someone for whom English is not their first language. It seems that most purchasers have difficulty in getting the float switch to work (or to "disable" it in non switching applications). You just play with the plastic connectors to secure in an upright position so the pump is in a constant ON mode but then you must also monitor the pump to ensure that you disconnect it when it has completed its task or risk burning out the motor.
