How do I set up the robot?
Set up is simple. Just unbox, place the dock on a hard-surface floor, at least 4 feet away from stairs with ample space for the robot to navigate in and out. Download the Roomba Home App, follow the prompts and your robot is ready to go.
-
How well does it vacuum?
A great vacuum is more than just power (though this one has180X more suction*). Dual Rubber Brushes and an Edge-Sweeping Brush plow through pet hair, extracting dirt along walls and in corners, and Carpet Boost devours dirt from multiple surfaces
-
How does the AutoEmpty Dock work?
Keep your hands out of dusty messes. This dock takes care of dirt and debris, emptying the robot's bin into an enclosed bag, capturing allergens and particles down to 0.7 microns, holding debris for 75+ days of carefree vacuuming.
-
How does the home mapping work?
ClearVie Pro LiDAR + PrecisionVisio AI Technology scans your home to create up to 5 maps and auto-names rooms in the Roomba Home App. Mapping takes only 8 minutes*, and then your robot is ready to navigate smoothly and avoid obstacles.
-
What kind of maintenance is required?
Perform basic care to keep your robot and dock running smoothly: wipe the robot bin, clean charging contacts, brush-clean, and change the filter every 3-6 months. See the owner's guide for detailed instructions.

A great improvement over older gen robots !

- Reviewed in Canada on May 6, 2025Verified PurchaseI have a Roomba 960, an S9+, J9+ and I finally got this 705. I have had them for a few years now, apart from J9+ which I got a year ago. I have always been very happy with the ease of maintenance, iRobots customer support and the easy modular design and ease of repair, which is an anomaly in today’s consumer electronics and appliances.
The 705 with the addition of Lidar maps the whole house much faster, it also doesn’t “bump” into stuff anymore, just steers away or turns around before running into anything. Cleaning performance seems better or at least on par with S9+ which was kinda unparalleled in carpet cleaning. I am glad iRobot launched a new model with their dual rollers.
It is also significantly quieter, and the build quality is the same as before, which is great.
It is a bit taller due to the LiDAR turret, so it couldn’t squeeze itself under my TV cabinet, and the app needs a bit more refining since it’s a brand new app. But the ease with which it signed in with my existing iRobot (classic) app and quickly set up the new robot is great.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 13, 2025I got this robot vacuum recently, and I honestly wish I had gotten it much sooner. It’s definitely not cheap and it is an investment, but it’s worth every penny for the convenience and efficiency it brings. The ability to set it and forget it while it takes care of the cleaning is a real relief. Coming home to spotless floors feels amazing, especially after a busy day.
The suction power is incredible—it picks up everything from dust to pet hair to stray cat litter without any issue. It even cleans itself afterward, which saves me so much time and hassle. Its compact design is another big plus. It fits neatly into my home without standing out or taking up too much space.
I also love that it’s pet-friendly. The hair management system means no more tangled brushes, which used to be such a chore with other vacuums I’ve used. The app integration with Alexa makes controlling it super simple, and it adapts seamlessly to different messes and floor types in my home.
This robot vacuum is not just a cleaning tool; it’s a little piece of peace in my life. It’s efficient, smart, and takes care of all the things I don’t have time for. Highly recommend it for anyone who values a clean home with minimal effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great improvement over the original.
Verified PurchaseWe had one of the original Roomba. It lasted for several years for it started giving up the coast. That’s when we decided to get a new one. Our new one is excellent! A very good improvement over the original. As good as the original was, this one is 1000 times better I strongly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mess Avoidance Makes This One
Object avoidance is a game changer for robot vacuums. I have a different one but hardly run it because I also have kids and pets that leave things out and to really get it to clean you have to have a pretty tidy room or give it avoid zones. Not having to deal with all that makes this actually usable on a regular basis.
It's home layout feature works really well and it does a pretty good job kf even pre labeling some of the rooms. It's easy to edit the layout and you can even add furniture if you want. Being able to tell it to just clean certain rooms is easy and useful. The app does require an account to use which I'm bit much of a fan of and it doesn't utilize any other login services like Google which means another login to keep track of. Pausing and resuming cleaning also works super well because it can scan the room and pick up where it left off. Makes it simple if you have to disturb it.
Speaking of disturbing it, the avoidance is good but not perfect. It ran over a sock and got stuck. Just like any other vacuum, it has stuff its not going to like. It'll be obvious as it will get quite loud. It is much louder on flooring than carpet. Hair is always an issue for every vacuum, this one tends to get it wrapped around the sweeper arm, which might look bad at first but it's preferred to the roller because the sweeper pops right off and makes it really easy to pull off whatever is tangled around it. As for it's cleaning job, it's okay. Expect to run it twice for a clean looking floor. Running it regularly will help a lot just a first pass for a dirty floor isn't going to work miracles. Also it ised bags for the disposal, which I'd much rather have just the bin instead of something to replace.
Overall it's a good cleaning bot and good for homes that frequently become unkept. There are still improvements to be had for future robots.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor documentation
Verified PurchaseThis vacuum does a nice job vacuuming. The documentation sucks. I almost returned this item. Fortunately I invested so much time getting it going, I decided to keep the vacuum.
Before you start assembling, go out on YouTube and find a good video. 'Just a Dad' video worked for me.
The smartphone app supplied by Roomba is not finished, so get ready for some aggravation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rought 1st run, improved since then
So this is my second robot vacuum - the other being the fantastic Shark PowerDetect, which I've had for almost a year now. Both have their quirks and strengths, and while I think the Powerdetect is probably the better robot vac, I think the Max 705 trades blows with it very, very well. I did have a few issues with it early on, but since then it's been nothing but reliable. I'll talk a little more about some of the issues a little later in the review, for now I wanted to bring up some of the positives.
First things first, setup is very easy. After about 5 minutes of prep, I was ready to start mapping the house, and 30 minutes later I was good to start cleaning. Easy. As for the vacuum itself, I love its simple, elegant look. The multi-textured black plastic with bronze lettering is so minimalist and handsome. It looks so much nicer than any other robot vac available. As for the performance, it has all the nice tech I like to see, Auto-charge, Auto-empty, LIDAR, and a very capable app. One of the things I hate the most about the Shark Powerdetect app is that you can't schedule the vac to clean specific rooms on different days, which is such a dumb restriction. That is not an issue with the Roomba app and I can schedule the Max 705 to clean any room on any day that I want. Love that.
So during my initial testing, I did run into a few issues. I had originally set the robot vacuum to run Friday at noon, so that it would finish by late afternoon, but it ended up running Friday at the stroke of midnight. Now, it's possible that I accidentally selected 12 midnight instead of 12 noon in the app... I doubt I did, but it's always a possibility. You schedule through the app on a 24-hour clock, so I would've had to selected 2400 Thursday or 0000 Friday to get it to run when it did... which again, I doubt I did that. Besides that, I also had a bit of trouble with the app on my first cleaning run. Every time I wanted to open the app to check on the progress of the robot vac, it would bring up the nonexistent breakdown of that midnight run, which I had canceled. I believe this glitch was causing the robot vac to act weird, because during this time, the Max 705 would pause its cleaning run every 10 minutes or so. This would force me to open the app, get rid of the previous run's breakdown, and manually tap to continue the run... which was extremely annoying. That breakdown screen did eventually stop appearing, and the robot vacuum never paused again. So yeah, I'm going to chalk it up to a simple glitch... one that I hope not to see again. Aside from that, I've had no issues with any other cleaning runs.
TLDR - Had a few issues on my initial cleaning run, since then it's been solid. Love the app, features, and minimalist design. 5/5 stars.
