What is wrong meets what feels right in this romance set in Italy by the New York Times bestselling author of Deep End.

Maya Killgore is twenty-three and still in the process of figuring out her life.

Conor Harkness is thirty-eight, and Maya cannot stop thinking about him.

It’s such a cliché, it almost makes her heart implode: older man and younger woman; successful biotech guy and struggling grad student; brother’s best friend and the girl he never even knew existed. As Conor loves to remind her, the power dynamic is too imbalanced. Any relationship between them would be problematic in too many ways to count, and Maya should just get over him. After all, he has made it clear that he wants her gone from his life.

But not everything is as it seems—and clichés sometimes become plot twists.

When Maya’s brother decides to get married in Taormina, she and Conor end up stuck together in a romantic Sicilian villa for over a week. There, on the beautiful Ionian coast, between ancient ruins, delicious foods, and natural caves, Maya realizes that Conor might be hiding something from her. And as the destination wedding begins to erupt out of control, she decides that a summer fling might be just what she needs—even if it’s a problematic one.

No. Notes. 👏🏼👏🏼 Unsurprisingly Ali does it again. She has the uncanny ability to have me reading a book from start to finish in one sitting. I don’t know how she does it, but every time she has me up till the wee hours of the morning, not stopping until I’ve devoured every single word she’s written. (As proof, the current time reads 4:38am… during a work week).

I *highly* recommend the audiobook too. Conor’s Irish accent 🥵👀. Yes please. The duet narration was absolute chefs kiss.

brb, going to immediately look up flights to Italy. (Who needs sleep anyway?)

I finished this book in under 24 hours. I loved it. The tension and emotion of the characters is beautifully written, the age gap carefully and mindfully addressed, and the setting artfully rendered. I’m happy to add this book to my shelf, and as with all of Ali Hazelwood’s books I appreciated the realism of the characters personal journey and the way it helped me process my own.

...had it on my face through reading this lovely book. Warm , funny, re- meeting many inhabitants of the Ali- Worse, and, with Maya introducing a very genuine and likeable young adult heroine. (Hero: for Ali-fans
solid as always!) And the Siccilia Summer feelings ... so good! If you ever had
a Granita, this is the book- version of it: deliciously exciting- relaxing- coffee-taste- summer- vibe!

    You okay?” I ask, cautious.
“Yeah.” A deep inhale. “Yeah. I just wanted to listen to you exist.

I have never wanted anything as desperately, as ungovernably, as persistently as I want you. Not a single godd*** thing. Not my dead mother back. Not revenge. Not the well-being of the people I love. Not professional success, not even my own happiness. Absolutely nothing has consumed me as mercilessly as you have.

    -Conor Harkness 🥵🥵

First things first. This book has no business being this good. Second, this just bumped to my favorite Ali book ever.

I was not the biggest fan of Not in Love, so I won’t lie I was really scared for this. However, Conor and Maya intrigued me so much, their friendship was so evident and clear, and I needed to know more.

I love all the crossovers with Ali’s other books, and deep end being top tier for me I was living the Scarlett and Lukas drop in.

I love an age gap, especially an age gap where the yearning is equal on both parts, I loved seeing Conor lose his mind over Maya, and watching Maya tease him like no other.

For them it was always the right person, wrong time, and when they finally, more so Conor, give into it, I was screaming!! I want a part three but just of them, because I’m not ready for their story to be over 😭

Spice: 🌶️🌶️ (but so much tension)

    Tropes:
    ✨ brothers best friend
    ✨ age gap
    ✨ years of yearning
    ✨ it’s always been you
    ✨ friends to lovers
✨ he falls first and hard
