About Fire TV Recovery Mode
What to do if the Device Recovery Mode screen appears on your Fire TV.
What is Device Recovery Mode?
Your Fire TV device enters device recovery mode when it encounters a critical error that it can’t resolve. An on-screen message appears on your Fire TV and provides options for you to recover your device:
- To attempt recovery, select the option to restart your device.
- If the issue persists after restarting, select the option to reset your device to
factory settings.
Important: Factory resetting your device removes your account information and downloaded content.
Remote Troubleshooting
If your paired remote doesn't work in device recovery mode, try a different Fire TV remote. To connect another remote:
- Reset the remote:
- Press and hold the Left
, Menu
, and Back
buttons at the same time for 12 seconds.
- Release the buttons. Your remote resets within 5 seconds.
- Press and hold the Left
- Pair the remote to your Fire TV:
- Bring the remote within 10 feet (3 m) of your Fire TV device.
- Within 10 seconds, short-press the following buttons in the order listed:
- Right
- Back
- Play/Pause
Tip: If you miss the 10 second window, or press the wrong buttons, wait a few seconds and then try again. - Right
- If you still can't use your remote in recovery mode, or you don't have
another Fire TV remote:
- Restart your Fire TV by unplugging it from power for three seconds.
- Try these steps again after your Fire TV power on.
To reconnect a remote to its original Fire TV device:
- Restart your Fire TV by unplugging the device or through
Settings
.
- When the home screen appears, press and hold the
Home
button for 10 seconds.
