Troubleshoot the Alexa Voice Remote Pro Customizable Buttons

Having trouble assigning shortcuts or using the customizable buttons on your Alexa Voice Remote Pro? Follow these troubleshooting steps to help resolve some common issues.

Can't Program Either Button

If the on-screen panel to select shortcuts doesn't appear on your Fire TV or Echo Show:

  • Make sure that your device isn't in a child profile.
  • Try pressing and holding the customizable button for up 10 seconds.
  • Make sure that the Alexa Voice Remote Pro is paired with the correct device.
  • Restart your device, and then try assigning the shortcut again.
    • To restart your Fire TV, unplug it from the power source for 1 minute before plugging it back in.
    • To restart your Echo Show, unplug the power adapter from the device or the outlet and then plug it back in.
  • Try setting up the shortcut in the remote options in the Fire TV Settings.
Note: For Echo Show devices, you can find Fire TV Settings in your Echo Show Settings.

Shortcut Button Not Working

If a shortcut isn't working when you press an assigned button:

  • Reassign the shortcut. Press and hold the button for 5 seconds, then choose an option from the on-screen panel.
  • If the shortcut is an Alexa command that's not working, try giving the command directly to your device. If the direct command works, reassign the button with the newly given command.

Can't Program Specific Shortcuts

If you can't program a specific shortcut (such as an app, voice command, a specific screen):

  • Check the on-screen panel for what recent voice command is displayed. If only "popular" commands are displayed, confirm that the correct voice command was initiated on your device.
  • Confirm that the app is installed on your device. Only installed apps can be assigned to a button.
    • If the app is installed, make sure it launches successfully and opens on your device.
  • Make sure that the shortcut to navigate to a specific screen on the device is supported on all devices. For example, a shortcut to navigate to an Input switching screen is only supported on certain Fire TV devices.
  • Restart your device, and then try assigning the shortcut again.
    • To restart your Fire TV, unplug it from the power source for 1 minute before plugging it back in.
    • To restart your Echo Show, unplug the power adapter from the device or the outlet and then plug it back in.
