Fire TV Remote Not Working or Not Responding

If your Fire TV remote isn鈥檛 working or isn't responding with your Fire TV device, try these troubleshooting steps.

You can use the troubleshooting mode on compatible remotes to help identify what鈥檚 causing the issue. When in troubleshooting mode, the LED on your remote changes color based on the problem.

Note: Not all remotes have an LED light. To check if your remote support troubleshooting mode, press the Alexa Voice button on your remote. If the LED at the top of the remote flashes, troubleshooting mode is available.

If your remote doesn鈥檛 respond, or your remote doesn't support troubleshooting mode:

  1. Replace the batteries in your remote. For best performance, use alkaline batteries.
  2. Move your remote closer to your device, within 10 feet (3 m).
  3. Unplug your device from the power cord or adapter then plug it back in.
  4. Try to Reset your Fire TV remote.

If your remote responds or supports troubleshooting mode:

  1. Press the Rewind and Right buttons at the same time for three seconds to activate the troubleshooting mode.
  2. Press the Menu button . The LED turns green to show that your remote is now in troubleshooting mode.
  3. Press any button on your remote. The LED flashes with a specific color to help you identify the issue.
    1. Red (slow blinking) 鈥 Low battery. Replace the batteries in your remote. For best performance, use AAA alkaline batteries.
    2. Red (fast blinking) 鈥 There鈥檚 a problem with your remote. Try to reset your Fire TV remote.
    3. Orange 鈥 The remote isn鈥檛 paired with your Fire TV. Restart your Fire TV device and wait until "Cannot detect your remote" appears on-screen. Then, pair your Fire TV remote again by pressing and holding the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds.     4. White - Make sure that the Fire TV device is on. If the problem persists, restart your Fire TV device.
    5. Blue 鈥 No issue with the remote. Try to restart your Fire TV device.
  4. To deactivate the troubleshooting mode:
    1. Press the Play/Pause and Up buttons at the same time for three seconds.
    2. Then, press the Menu button to turn off troubleshooting mode.
    3. Next, remove the batteries and place them back into the remote.
