鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
The idea here is a clearly a starter kit for home security, where you use this to get things up and running then add additional sensors and cameras (at an additional cost, of course). The problem is, this falls flat out of the gate due to the app.
First off, though compatible with Google Home, Alexa, and Apple Home, you're going to need an account with Aqara as well. Then, you'll need to scan the QR code on the back of the camera hub to get the ball rolling... and that is where we crashed and burned. That QR code is itty bitty, and my older model android phone couldn't pick it up. I've had no issues installing other cameras from other brands via QR code, but whatever. I then switched to the manual option and.... got nowhere. The camera hub still failed to install.
There's not much to say past that. There's an option to install via device code, but that's numeric only, and the serial on the camera is alphanumeric. Worse, and this is when my review came to its real end - the Aqara app tried to take over the home screen on my phone by installing one of its own. In no way, shape or form should any company, let alone one that isn't a household name, try to take over your home screen with one of their own.
I'd pass on this, honestly. The build itself seemed sturdy, and there were neat little options like window decals to let would-be crooks know your premises is secure (sometimes the best deterrent of all), but the app just makes this an unpleasant experience.
