  This movie only loosely ties into the DC comics that serve as its source material. It's not at all what I thought it would be in very good ways. It's a thoughtful and dramatic origin story for the Joker told using visual and audio styling I've never seen in any other Batman, or DC universe movie. I took it down a star because it draws on longer than necessary, makes overuse of smoking as a prop, and I don't see any reason to have the protagonist starve himself to the haggard body seen on screen. It's a great movie, amazing even with the imperfect bits shown or perhaps because of them. Give it a watch even if you're not a comic book movie kind of person cause this one broke the mold!
