All of the components are plastic, but the finishes are good enough that for viewing purposes - which is what this is for - it's practically no different from the metal and wood that it imitates. Assembly is easy and the included pebblestones - which are real - that you can scatter adds an air of authenticity to the set-up.The media could not be loaded.
The pump is not completely silent, and emits a quiet hum that is noticeable in a completely quiet room but would otherwise be undetectable in a room with other sounds, such as computer, music, fan/hvac, keyboard typing, etc. The yellow LED lighting is a nice touch although we'll have to see how long they last.
Overall quite impressed with the quality for the price and I've enjoyed watching it when I wanted to take my eyes off the computer screen to focus on something else. Longevity remains to be seen but other than the lights I don't see anything that could fail easily. If the design of this fountain is appealing to you then this is worth a shot.
