- Reviewed in Canada on March 31, 2024The DM6000AR is a pretty good multimeter at a great price, with all the functionality that most hobbyists would ever need. It matches the accuracy of the Fluke meter I use for work, but at less than 10% of the price.
Minor complaints include the flimsy kickstand that鈥檚 difficult to deploy. Other reviews mention that without a screwdriver, it鈥檚 almost impossible to unseat the kickstand, but I found that pressing the top of the hinge pops the bottom of the kickstand out enough so you can grab it and pull it out. Another issue is the magnetic strap. While this is a great idea, the problem here is that when not in use (probably most of the time), the magnet folds back and attaches to the back of the meter. This means that the meter no longer has a flat back, and it when you rest it on a flat surface, it鈥檚 not stable. And if that surface is smooth, the meter will keep sliding around because it鈥檚 resting on the hard plastic lump of the magnet housing. I ended up removing the magnet & strap - it should have some sort of quick-disconnect, but it doesn't. I also added some small stick-on rubber feet to the back of the meter (like my Fluke meter has) and now it stays in place.
Overall, I鈥檓 happy with this purchase.
Update: I really like this meter's ability to measure tiny DC currents (+/- 0.5uA); it's been invaluable for my ultra-low-power battery-operated microcontroller projects. But five months in, a problem showed up with resistance measurement; there appeared to be an offset that was causing an error in the readings. I was going to purchase another meter, but on a whim, I contacted AstroAI support to ask if there was any way I could recalibrate the thing. They responded almost immediately and ended up sending me a new replacement meter that I received the following day. Very impressive customer service - they obviously stand behind their products and are serious about their warranty and their customer satisfaction pledge.
