Customer Review

I got this product in a plain white box, so I guess it was a refurbished item however I had order new. The item worked fine out of the box and I was able to get a picture on the computer screen. I wanted the DVR feature so I went on the Silicon Dust (Canadian) website and ordered the DVR subscription. It was advertised $35 a year and although it was the Canadian website the charge was in US dollars. This was the first unpleasant surprise but I said OK I'm gonna pay because I wanted this feature. It turned out to be $45 Canadian. Got the confirmation email and the receipt and then... NOTHING! No activation code to enable the DVR. I then sent an email to support asking for help. I got a reply the next day saying that "I should've gotten the activation code in an email", as if that was supposed to help me somehow. Yeah, I should have, but I hadn't. I then asked for a refund and that took even longer to processed.
Needless to say I'm disappointed with Silicon Dust. I had cut the cable and was looking for a solution to watch and record broadcast TV and I read good things about HD HomeRun. I really wanted this to work. Never imagined that support from this company would be so lousy.
