I usually use my Switch on the go, so I'm constantly throwing it into my backpack. Because of this, I need a shell to keep my Switch from getting too damaged. The shell I purchased is very tight-fitting, which makes it extremely troublesome to take on and off. This is where this dock comes in extremely handy. Since the shell for my Switch is too large to fit in the original dock, this Switch dock fits into the cutout for the USB port. This way, I no longer have to remove the shell to use my Switch on the TV when playing with friends. Yes, I do lose two controllers, but I have Pro controllers for at-home play.
I also had a previous one, which I lost, and it had lots of disconnects and screen flashing. I assume that's because it was a first-gen model, purchased right when I got my Switch. However, this new one is stable and works perfectly. Also note that not all USB docks will work with the switch. This one, obviously does.
