Customer Review

Update after 2 months of use:

While my initial review was mostly positive, I can no longer recommend this controller. After the first month, the left stick鈥檚 anti-friction ring started rubbing and making a squeaking sound, which was unpleasant both to hear and feel. Another issue is with the face buttons. On my unit, the A button has become inconsistent in how much force is needed to press it. Sometimes it feels normal, like when I first got it, but other times it feels almost stuck. I鈥檓 not sure why this is happening since there鈥檚 no debris, and I鈥檝e never experienced this with any other controller, including GameSir鈥檚 own G7 SE.

Given these new issues, I鈥檓 lowering my rating from 4 to 2. While the controller still works, I can鈥檛 recommend it anymore. You might want to check out other options like the G7 SE or the newer G7 versions.

    Original Review:

The GameSir Kaleid is nearly the perfect wired controller for me, but two issues hold it back. Let鈥檚 start with the positives. The controller is well-built and feels great in hand. The clicky face buttons feel nice, though they take some getting used to. The hall effect sticks and triggers track perfectly. Additionally, the controller comes with a decent app for Xbox and Windows, allowing you to customize almost everything, and it works well.

Now, onto the two issues. First, the back buttons. I personally like the back buttons on the Kaleid, however, the main issue is that you can鈥檛 remove them, like on the Xbox Elite, or lock them in place, like on the GameSir G7 SE. This makes the grip less comfortable, as you have to hold the controller in a way that avoids accidentally pressing the back buttons. Additionally, it鈥檚 worth noting that you can have the back buttons not mapped, so pressing them will not do anything.

The second issue is compatibility with controller adapters. I was unable to get the Kaleid to work with the Brook Wingman 2, which is unfortunate because the older GameSir G7 SE works with the Wingman 2 just fine.

Edit: I've recently noticed a third issue. If the controller stays connected to my Xbox Series X after I turn it off, the console immediately turns itself back on. This doesn鈥檛 change my overall opinion of the controller, but it鈥檚 something to keep in mind before purchasing.

Overall, if the two issues I have do not affect you, or even if you are willing to deal with them like I am, then this is one of the best Xbox controllers available today.
