I wanted to buy this device for some time and the previous version was discontinued, so as soon as I saw this new version I bought it.
I already have a SoundBlaster X4 (twice the price) so I will compare to it.
Pros (K5): -Plug and Play, no bloatware whatsoever. Windows driver kicked in immediately. -No issue recognizing mic and audio, works right out of the box. -Quality materials, nice metallic enclosure (aluminum i think). -easy ability to modify bass and treble with physical buttons, no need to dig in software. -easy change of inputs by short pressing on/off button. -Price. -Input USB/Optical/Coaxial: I have no use for coax, but optical can bring straight from PC optical, but to me USB input/output is best. -RCA output: old technology, but so versatile, so a plus in my book. -Size: small enough to travel with, which I wouldn't do with X4. (Great companion for laptop).
Cons (K5): -the large volume/bass/treble buttons are spaced too close together making it hard to operate without interfering with other button. Smaller buttons would offer better maneuverability (I am nit picking here). -Not as powerful as SoundBlaster X4, but it's half the price, so that maybe 10% less power is still a great value. It does drive by Sennheiser/Drop HD6XX 300 Ohms just fine. -Sound quality: Not as rich as I get on X4, but it is still 90% there, for half the price, so not the best, but for the price, more than acceptable.
Other element: The same day I installed, I had two BSOD (Clock_Watchdog_Timeout) on Windows 10 Pro ver 21H1, so it could be related, but for whatever reason, I had to install QuickTime (Apple) and Bonjour Service the day before, so it could be one or the other as those the only changes I did to my PC. I removed (using Revo Pro) Quick Time and Bonjour and haven't had any issues for 2 days and left my PC on since then. So it looks as was not K5 Pro, but I will update if get more BSOD.
