- Reviewed in Canada on February 5, 2022Decent overall, wiring harness had loose plug, which made install difficult as it took me a while to find the issue which happened to be a loose connection in the wiring harness plug-in included with this unit. Did test it against a comparable kenwood 4v marine deck and found less distortion and better volume levels. Have set up using only rca out puts to 5 channel Rockford amp. Both decks had 6 channel 4v pre outs, found this to sound better especially at higher volumes.
***update*** Used this deck for a season out on the boat and found a few issues. First and foremost is the 4volt preouts. While they may be 4volt, I was getting a lot of distortion at about the 70% and higher volume ranges, so had to turn the gains way down on my amp to compensate, which caused a loss in over all sound volumes. Also when using Bluetooth I found the sound volumes to be low, so much so while underway in my boat I could not hear much much of anything. I tried playing with the decks settings, such as loudness, treble/bass settings etc, which helped a bit. Lastly the deck is prone to glare, but again it鈥檚 in a 19ft bow rider so I can鈥檛 really knock it for that. With all these little issues, I wasn鈥檛 so keen on the deck. Multiplied by the fact my system included Rockford m0 marine 6.5 speakers, and a 10 kicker tb tube, driven by a 1000 watt Rockford 5-channel amp鈥 I wanted more. So I went back and purchased a kenwood kdcx704 which has 3 pairs 5 volt preouts. Wayyy better deck. I was able to turn my gains on my amp up about 25%, and the kenwood deck only starts to distort ever so slightly at about 95% max volume compared to the pioneer deck which started to distort at no more than 80% max volume so it picked alot more volume and clarity there alone. If you are going to run this amp off of rca inputs alone, do yourself a favour and go to a 5volt kenwood deck. I made the wrong choice first off, causing me to have to buy a second deck just weeks after purchasing this model. With it, overall my setup was improved over a crappy stock system from a 20 year old boat, but was lacking, but with the kenwood 5v series deck my system straight up pounds.
