I decided to try black walnut hull powder after investigating a more natural hair dye. I was using L鈥橭real Color Casts but developed a reaction (rash on face and around one of my eyes), so was afraid to use any commercial dyes and wasn鈥檛 interested in permanent dyes.
I followed a recipe I found online, which led to me learning some things: make a paste, don鈥檛 just mix with a bunch of water and a bit of olive oil - it is way too drippy(!); use gloves, make sure to use plenty of old towels and be prepared for a lot of rinsing/cleaning. This can stain, but my sink/tub were fine - no permanent stains. Oh, also make sure to use Vaseline at your hairline and ears to avoid staining. Result after wrapping my hair in a plastic bag and towel for two hours it was okay - not fabulous. Didn鈥檛 cover all the greys, but my hair is shinier and a bit darker. I am a bit more empowered to use this more often, since it is more natural. I added some of the leftover liquid mixture to my leave-in conditioner. I also added a bit of powder to my shampoo to see if I can keep slowly adding color to my hair on a regular basis. I have to say, I am lucky I am not allergic to nuts!
I also placed some liquid on an eyebrow brush and used it on my eyebrows. I didn鈥檛 want anything to drip the liquid in my eyes. This is just a light brush. Didn鈥檛 make a whole lot of difference, but it wasn鈥檛 completely useless.
