I wanted something that would work for pen testing on 5Ghz as well. I will say that this DOES go into monitor mode and work with Kali. That is the main reason I bought it so I will give it points. However. the range was somewhat underwhelming and I have tried about everything I could with this device. That being said, I used it on a regular windows laptop, and the signal was better than the factory laptop so it is still pretty good.
I'd go with my previous ALFA on the 2.4 band if I was looking for range. If you are planning on just using this in your house I think you will have good success with it. For the pricepoint this has worked great.
