I installed a quartz shower niche which I thought was a must have (thanks to reno magazines) when we renovated our house few years back. Turns out i hate that thing wholeheartedly. It鈥檚 always wet, so the silicone caulking is always mould (lost count how many times we鈥檝e re caulked), and the constant standing water on the surface means mineral/calcium buildup. I cannot use anything abrasive to clean it because of quartz material. It鈥檚 been a dreaded battle to clean this niche I have basically given up. I used this steamer on the niche for 5-10 minutes, blasting hot steam at dial #2), and used a scraping knife. To my surprise I was able to loosen up the mineral buildups and I chipped away all of it off! I tried it on the sink counter top at the faucet base where I also had mineral buildups and i was able to chip those away as well. See photos (The silicone caulking is another story though). This steamer gets quite hot, I have only turned up the dial to #3 and it鈥檚 plenty hot. It heats up quickly, but the steam is inconsistent, it gets going at full speed but then it will die down, and it picks up again, and dies down; you cannot quite control the steam. It also leaks water, quite a bit in fact, so steaming furniture and curtains are out of question as everything will be soaking wet, including your floor. The kitchen range hood is my next target, I am hopeful it will help loosen up the grease and makes my job better. One thing though, is that my glasses gets very foggy when I use this steamer, so I wear a neck fan to help blow away the steam and it helps but not 100%. So for those who wear glasses, just take note. Also, the electric cord is quite short, so you need a plug nearby whatever you want to steam clean. Overall, I really like this steamer, it does what I want it to. At time of review, this is priced at $73
