  I used it on my canoe trip, when I was on-call with the army. I've kept it in my bag for solo day trips and hunting since then. Battery life is great, but to save it even more, I just kept it powered off all day. I then turned it on periodically to check for messages. Connecting to sattelite networks takes a bit, but that's to be expected with these things. Piggybacking off of other cell networks is also a huge perk.
  
  I love how it uses a simple cell phone number, so that people can reach me easily without any complex app.
  
  The other thing I love is the fact that you can pause the plan at a low rate ($5/month), which is perfect for me, as I do a lot of remote travelling in the summer, but not tons in the winter. allows a lot of freedom with the best plan value between any of the available satellite devices, at least by my calculations. 100% would recommend.
