  When my computer imploded and refused to boot I was faced with a substantial fee to recover my files. The computer was somewhat elderly but had 2 x 2 terabyte drives. I was able to remove them and just plug the drives using the adapter cable. Everything worked perfectly and all the content was saved. I had backups but not completely up to date, does anyone? One unexpected bonus is that I can use this sata cable to connect an old cd/dvd drive to my new computer. CD / DVD drives are no longer included in new computers so it was nice to be able to access some older programs, music and dvds.
